Works as advertised. The best way I've found to sharpen carving tools. I finish them on a fine stone, then use the leather strop wheel on the WS3000.

Even my beater tools are now a pure joy to use!...
I have some ...Uhh-Hummm..."Inexpensive" chisels and micro planes from another company. They were really cheep and you get what you pay for seemed perfect description of them. Wellllll--The WS3000+2 hours equals the sharpest and easiest to use planes chisels and irons I have ever used! Even my el-cheepo beeter chisels are like a hot knife in butter even working Cocobolo or Hondura Mahogony. This was the best investment I have made since my 2.5hp dust collection system!

Fast, accurate, effective sharpening tool
I am a relatively lazy tool sharpener and am not willing to spend hours sharpening my chisels and planes. Nevertheless I want good sharpening in a quick and effective process. The Work Sharp WS3000 replaced a more expensive wet wheel sharpening system and provides the desired capability in a compact and well built package. Setup is easy and accurate. Instructions are clear and result in a well sharpened tool in a minimum time. The sharpening process is not dependent on operator skill level to produce the desired edge. Changing sharpening wheels is quick. Tool heat is minimized, although some water to cool small tools is not a bad idea. Sandpaper facing is easily replaced and does not require flattening as do sharpening stones and grinding wheels.

Work Sharp 3000 works well and does achieve scary sharp results
The Work Sharp 3000 is able to produce scary sharp results on chisels, plane irons, lathe tools or even pocket knives and utility blades. The key is to work through the grits as directed. Skipping grits will not produce a great edge and will reduce the life of the finer grits of sandpaper. The chisel port exceeded my expectation in terms of ability to hold the chisel and maintain the angle. Some skew adjustment is required to get a square edge dialed in. In general, this machine can be used by a novice, but some understanding of basic sharpening would be useful, since it is a time consuming process on dull or worn out edge. Other than the initial price of the machine, the sanding disc replacements are in line with most 6" peel and stick sand paper. I do not recommend using other brands of sandpaper...I tried it and most aftermarket brands use much thicker paper which can throw off the sharpening angles as you step to the next grit size. For example, the 80 grit paper is about 1/3 to 1/2 the thickness of a Gator or 3M brand of disc. This reason the thickness is reduced with the Work Sharp is that glass plates provide all the support needed for the disc. If your are sharpening your tools and want scalpel sharp edges, this will matter to you. I do recommend picking up a 3rd glass disc (it comes with 2 already) so that you can work through 6 grits rather than 4. It sharpening process is quicker since each successive grit is closer to the previous grit size and can remove all prior abrasive marks. Jumping from 100 to 400 will take a long time. I personally use 80, 120, 220, 400, 1000, 3600, and my time sharpening each edge is cut in half.

Much More Professional then it looks
Once you read the instruction manual cover to cover, and watch the enclosed DVD, you will be impressed at how easy this tool is to use. The step by step method of sharpening is easy to follow and the results will induce you to give up most of your other methods. Let me back step and say this is the best method for planes, chisels and carving chisels. I recently added an extra glass plate for use with off the shelf sanding disk, and the work sharp leather hone kit. The extra glass plate gives you the freedom to try out other grits and types of sand paper without tying up one of the plates that come with it. And the leather hone kit gives you a polished razor sharp edge.I highly recommend anyone contemplating the purchase of one of these great machines to go to their web site and download a copy of the WS3000 owners manual, after you read the designers method of sharpening, you'll want one for sure.The customer service for this company is great, if you have a problem or question, contact them they want to bend over backwards to help you, as they did for me.

Easy to set up. The included DVD is very comprehensive. My tools have never been so sharp. The abrasive pads are easily available at most hardware stores and home centers. The leather wheel is extra but a must for a mirror finish.

I like this tool.
I used the tool to sharpen chisels and plane blades. All the chisels were damaged and notched. The worksharp restored the flatness to the backs and the edge angle to the fronts of the blades. The only problem was the smallest chisel. It had a flange that prevented the chisel from resting flat against the edge while sharpening. All the other chisles are square and sharp. Probably sharper than when I purchased them. There is no blueing from over heating so the metal has retained its hardness. Ease of use--even a cave man could use this tool.
I would recommend this product to a friend.
