I've owned this saw for about 2 years. Out of the box it was nice and calibrated and laser guide was perfectly aligned. I've used it on may different projects. Works well and produces accurate cuts for building projects (miters 2x4's good and other smaller lumber). Has plenty of power for this and cuts pressure treated 2x4's well. The saw has a few downsides. 1) can only cut material about 3in think at 90 deg. (cutting a 2x6 at 90 is nearly impossible). This also makes cutting 4x4's impossible. 2) the bevel degree marker is difficult to read and has no preset stops at common angles. 3) Not good for crown molding. Can only cut about 3 in crown and it must be laid flat on the base. Does not support vertical cutting of crown (the 3in depth mentioned in 1 makes this impossible). There are no crown stops avaliable to support this. To this saw's defense, it does cut 3in or smaller crown laying flat if you can align the bevel correctly for repetative cuts and remember to keep your pieces straight. Overall good general purpose saw for building, but don't buy it expecting to do a crown moulding job.

I bought this miter saw thinking it was a great value for the $99 sale price; however the quality matched exactly what I paid. The saw was easy to use "right out of the box"; however, while I was cutting the SECOND piece of laminate flooring, the laser guide just stops working. Due to the fact that I work late, I couldn't return/ exchange it at that moment, so I decide to work without the laser feature. Sure enough, after about the tenth cut, the securing brackets break off - I believe they were made of either painted plastic or aluminum coated plastic. I immediately returned this saw for a full refund, and instead opted to purchase the DeWalt 10 in Miter - more expensive, but well worth the extra $ for the reliability, durability and overall performance - it's AWESOME! I highly recommend it.

See all reviews for this productMany years ago my brother and I started a business trimming houses and went to Sears for the tools to get started. We bought this 10 inch mitre saw, a 10 inch arm saw, a compressor and guns, and a router among others.
You must have a plan for what you will be doing to know which sized saw you need. The 10 inch mitre is a good entry level saw which is priced right, is accurate, has a superior warranty and is well built. For most DIY homeowners it is plenty and will do most of what an arm saw will do but is much easier to transport and set up on remote sites. The arm saw is better for repeat cuts of 1 x 12 lumber or same sized cuts in numbers. This mitre however will cut angles better and sets in place much faster. We built our own stand of 1 x 12 with extensions that folded down on either end and a backboard for clamping a block for repeats. Today there are trick, portable stands.
Any 10 inch mitre has its limits and these are overcome by going to a 12 inch or larger saw. These limits may include cutting completely through 4 x 4's or making compound mitre cuts on wide moldings or others.
The 10 inch, 15 amp Craftsman mitre has plenty of power. The handle moves easily to reset angles and has stops at the most used angles. A dust bag comes with the unit and is efficient at removing dust from the garage when working "honeydews" at home. The laser light cuts guesswork on exactly where the blade will make contact on your material and can be very useful. Many people start their home power saw collection with a 10 inch mitre because of their versatility cutting both 1by and 2by materials as well as angled cuts and mitres.
This is one saw than can do many things and for the cost and durability it is hard to beat.
This saw cuts straight and true. Laser is right on. Dust collection works as well as any miter saw will. Takes Sears small shop vac hose. I found a nice slow steady cut works great and is right on the money for both 90 and 45 degree cuts.
a Craftsman Club MemberPicked this saaw up on sale for a DIY project. I have to say I was pretty impressed. Reading reviews about the Laser Trac system, I wasn't sure how well it was going to work. When I actually used the saw, I found it really didn't matter anyway. I found that I reverted back to the old way and lined the cut mark that I had penciled on the wood up with the saw blade and cut it by eye ! You know, the same way we have been doing it for years ! The saw works great and has plenty of power for home projects. If I was a contractor I would certainly want something bigger, but for the occasional project this works great. The plastic parts haven't been an issue, of course I don't throw my tools around either.
