Portamate  Universal Mobile Base

I have not been able to use my radial arm saw as much as I have wanted to because I had to move it each time using several different methods to do so.  As a result  some of these moves resulted in my having to adjust the saws settings before use.  When I saw this mobile base was on sale I purchased it immediately.  The base was easy to assemble and now moving my saw is no problem and I will be able to use it more often.

A good product for the cost. I bought two and it's made moving my table saw and miter saw and my space limited garage. Now I no longer have to call my friends over to help me move equipment just so I can finish a DIY project. My only complaint is that the writer that did the assembly instructions needs to get a new job. The easy way to assemble this product is to used 10 % written instruction and 90% pictural.

Likes - Great to help make your heavy table saw mobile.  Easily assembled.

Dislikes - Makes table moveable in straight lines, but difficult to maneuver into tight spaces or turns.

I had one of these portable bases for my band saw. But, I really needed one for my Sears table saw. I bought it online and picked it up in store. Seems difficult to assemble but is quite straight forward and goes together quickly. If your saw has wheels don't forget to add an extra inch to the measurements. My saw had wheels but they didn't work very well, so I removed them before placing the saw on the base.

A quick tip if you don't have help lifting a heavy saw onto the base:

Leave the rear  bar off , slide the around the legs of the saw, tilt the saw onto the front of the base making sure the base pads are down and the base wheels are locked up, then pop each side under the two rear legs of the saw, now attach the rear bar.

I had purchased a Craftsman Bench Top Tool Stand for a new Craftsman 10 Inch Miter Saw and thought having it on wheels would be convient. In order for it to work with Craftsman Bench Top Tool Stand, we had to purchase steel strap and bolts, washers and nuts. We cut two 12 Inch straps and drilled holes. The Port-A-Mate Universal Mobile Base clearly was not manufactured for Craftsman Bench Top Tool Stand and is not as Universal as the name implies.

This base is easy to assemble and fits a large variety of tools. Once it is assembled and placed under whatever it is that you want to keep mobile it makes moving that item very simple. It doesn't take up a lot of extra floor space and the lifting levers are easy to manipulate. I definitely will be getting another one soon.

This mobile base is decent for light equipment. It's rated for 400 lbs, but I'd recommend sticking with items around 250 lbs or less.

I gave it a lower overall rating due to the fact that the 400 lb rating is a bit aggressive. Also, assembly was quite a chore.

I bought two, but after my experience with the first one, I'm returning the second. I'll keep the first to use for something light.

Sears had a 2 for 1 sale on these and I needed 2. One for my Craftsman 14" band saw and one for my Craftsman 10" pro grade table saw. It was easy to put together and harder to set the heavy machines into them but once done they work. I can roll out the saws to the middle of the garage and set them down to do my work. I would rather have had higher quality bases but Sears chooses not to carry any other type or brand other then this one unless special ordered. I wish Sears would market the Rockler All-Terrain Mobile Base as it is the best base available.

I JUST PURCHASE THIS WITHIN THE LAST COUPLE OF DAYS.  IT'S NOT QUITE LIKE MY CRAFTSMAN I PURCHASED SEVERAL YEARS AGO FOR MY TABLE SAW.  BY THAT I MEAN THE QUALITY IS NOT THE SAME.  I AM USING IT FOR MY CRAFTMAN RADIAL ARM SAW WHICH THE BASE IS 34 x 34 INCHES.  THIS IS THE MOST THIS PORT-A-MATE WILL EXPAND.  I CUT 4 PIECES 1 1/8 INCH X 3/4 PLYWOOD TO USE ALONG THE RAILS TO MAKE IT A LITTLE MORE STURDY  USING 1 1/4 INCH BOLTS WITH WASHERS AND LOCK NUTS.   IF YOU DO CHOOSE TO ADD TO THE RAILS, LEAVES ENOUGH ROOM AT THE CORNERS FOR THE TOOL TO SET IN THE PORT-A-MATE.   I WOULDN'T HESTITATE IN PURCHASING ANOTHER ONE FOR THE PRICE.  HAD NO PROBLEMS IN ASSEMBLING.
