      the professional 13 " planer nice tool for my wood shop ! April 17, 2011

      This planer works fine with good dust control ,after I hooked it up to my dust collector system !! Most of the stickers that were on the planer are peeling off already !! It replaced the 1998 12 1/2 planer that I had , only because I could no longer get new knives or the parts to fix the old planer !!!Also wish you had a tec. to talk to about trouble shooting some of the problems I had with the old planner, maybe I could have fixed it for a spare !!! I have alot of craftsman wood working tools in my shop, including a detail biscuit cutter , that I can no longer get the R 3 biscuits from your store ,had to go on the internet and find them. The machine works great , but is of no use without the biscuits..WHAT IS YOUR position on how long you stock parts for an Item, after you no longer sell a tool or supplies for that tool ??????? You also could stock more parts at your HBG. parts warehouse , so the customer don,t have to pay your high shipping costs, most of the time the shipping is more than the part !!!!       21748 Planer is worth the price for small batch work November 16, 2010

      Good for occasional weekend limited only by blade life.  I think the motor and drive would stand up to high(er) volume but have a stockpile of blades on hand before starting.  I get about 40bf of fairly clear 4/4 KD cherry through it per blade change making it an expensive machine to operate ($74 with shipping.)  

      The unit arrived with broken bevel gears that were replaced next day by Sears. I could not, however, get the rollercase below .003" coplanar with the bed either side to side or front to back.  Not anything to worry about in practice but I’m fussy on machine set up. 

      Operationally it works like a champ.  Dust control is excellent with a good vacuum on the discharge.  Adjusting the stops is easy and once set it stays there but I still gage every tenth board for thickness out of habit. 

       In summary, it is a good unit for the price and it does a good job.

      I purchased this item hoping it was the Delta unit with granite vs steel inner plate. It is not this at all. 12" boards (pine) are hard to get thru. The chips and the chute can clog up without a vac attached and the dust shoot attachment screws have cracked already as they do not fully seat against the chute material they sit on. For $500 bucks this is expensive and has not done the work I had expected it to do so far. Delta and Dewalt purchase likely would have made me happier now that I tried this the hard way. One good thing, you can get a multi bladed drum but only if you have it shipped so again more money since the multi blade version of this machine is not available at a store. Try online as they have this machine cheaper.

      I'm a relatively novice woodworker.  The planer works fine for me and quickly gets my lumber to thickness. Good dust collection with my shopvac attached. The wood does need a bit of handplaning or sanding to get out the nick marks but with the amount of wood I put through it's not a big deal for me, ...yet.
