A great saw.
I needed a dependable, accurate saw that I could easily move around my workshop and occasionally take to other sites. After reviewing and seeing several saws, I bought this one because it had the most features for the money. The router table and sliding miter table are welcome extras too. I found the saw extremely easy to set up and adjust, accurate to use and very easy to move. Even with a reasonably sized shop, the ability to move it around to rip or cross cut long boards or plywood sheets is a plus.

Too inexpensive and versatile to do things great
The Craftsman 21829 is the newest version of the Ryobi BT3100 and BT3000. If I could use one word to describe this table saw, it would be clunky. The main good qualities of this table saw are that it is versatile and can be tweaked to fairly exact settings. It does wide ripping, large crosscutting, and uses a router in the accessory table. With a lot of effort (including tightening the clamps), the rip fence and miter table can be set so they align about perfectly parallel each time. The negative flipside of these attributes is that the saw does not really do any of these versatile things really well. First problem, in about 90% of these table saws produced, the blade does not sit parallel in the saw. The blade/arbor is set where it is placed out of the factory and cannot be adjusted. Mine has a blade that tilts about 1/16" between the front of the blade and back of the blade. This is annoying just to look at. To offset this, the rip fence and miter slide have to be tilted the same way. Second, adjusting the fence and slide perfectly is difficult and can be maddening. Once they are set even, they quite possibly need not be adjusted again. But it can take a lot of trial and error. To align the fence, I suggest tightening the back clamp first, then remove the blade guard, stick the saw out fully, loosen the two alan bolts, press the fence against the blade, tighten the front clamp half way, then retighten the alan bolts. To align the miter slide, align it to the rip fence by putting the rip fence on the left side of the blade, loosen the three alan bolts on the slide base, put a block between the slide base and the rip fence at the front and back until they are exactly parallel, then retighten the alan bolts. Align the miter table using the manual; this is a real pain here; you have to get the crosscut setting to 0 degrees again, which is very hard and requires test cuts, and will take a ton of time and effort to do exactly. Third problem is the three table parts do not sit level with one another. This cannot be fixed. Cross cutting will have the piece float over the main table, which can cause uneven cuts. Wide rip cuts will have the board slant from one table to the other, which is not something that really can be helped much either, but it is a slight inaccuracy. Next problem, the sliding miter table is awkward. It does not work very smoothly. Unfortunately the only option for miter cuts on this table is the sliding table. Another problem, the accessory table has no adjustments. It sits how it sits out of the factory and cannot be altered. Mine is slightly crooked and pivots when set in the table. Final problem I will mention is that this table does not have miter slots for the saw. This is probably the issue that bugs me most. You'll notice there is a miter slot in the accessory table; but because the blade or accessory table cannot be adjusted, you cannot use this slot with the saw. Miter slots are important for good use of table saws. They work on the same plane as the main table, and can be used for one of the greatest jigs, the sled. The sliding miter table is an inferior sled. This saw's biggest weakness (which is not a problem for most saws) is that it cannot use sleds. The BTS21 is an update to the BT3100 as well, but it is not as versatile and is less expensive. While the BTS21 still does not have miter slots, the blade can actually be adjusted, and it is much easier to align the sliding miter table, which actually rests really level with the main table. But I would still suggest instead of these tables to get a saw with miter slots. Also look in other portable saws for a rip fence that always aligns parallel, a level and even table top, durability, durable settings, a blade/arbor that can be adjusted, at least 12 amps, belt driving instead of direct driving, and a ripping capacity you like. Look for reviews and look at other saws. And just get a separate router table.

Bad fence, but decent saw

I also caught this on sale for $350 or so. This is my first table saw. I wish I had saved the money and put it towards a better saw. CONS My biggest complaint is the fence. It is not a fast, secure, or very precise . The front of the fence clamps, but it has a eighth inch wiggle depending on how much pressure you put on the fence. Occasionally the fence pops it track which is a huge problem. On the back of the fence is a screw that tighten to the track. I have found that the best results is to crank down on the screw and I get good cuts, but it's not fast to switch to different measurements. The is also lots of double checking measurements between cuts since fence wiggles so much. The fence is really the most import thing of a table saw, besides safety. I wish the off switch was LARGE AND OVERSIZE so I can bump it with my knee, and keep my hands on the project to prevent kickbacks. LIMITED REVIEW LENGTH! BOO! CAN'T TELL MANY PROS I LIKE

Good Saw for Small Spaces

i've had this table saw for about three years, the first two of which were very light-duty years. this past year i've been using it way more and have been pleased. it works well for a beginner woodworker and is as accurate as i need it. i'm sure as my skills progress as do my needs, i may outgrow this saw but for what i paid and the features it offers, it's a good saw. the large miter fence and sliding sled are nice but may be a source of wandering cuts if not checked. as of right now, i'm not sure if i'd have preferred a simple miter slot on both sides of the blade. we'll see, i suppose. the capacity is good for a saw that can fold up to such a small package in the corner of a workspace. i can see some future table top space being added, however, as the supplied accessory tables are a bit crowded. all the accessories store on the saw and it folds up nice and easy. good starter saw with room for growth, IMO.

I would recommend this product to a friend.

Portable Table Saw

I bought this saw 5 years ago, I use it professionally and know by experience any tool has to be used to be tested.  I use this saw for all applications from cabinet building to general use on a home construction site.  I use the table for the router, which works very well.  I work as a mobile shop and the fold and store ability is perfect for my use.. If I needed a new table saw today I would by this one again.

I'm impressed, to the point of WOW

I bought four saws at the same time, a bosch $699.99 I hated this one, to much plastic for me and never felt right altough I did like the gravity rise, the Craftsman contractor Hybrid saw, now there's a trip, this saw works great now with a few issues @ the begining, the caftsman cabinet saw, love the granite top on this thing and the Craftsman Professional 10 in. Portable Table Saw, I just love this thing easy to move, easy to use with a good motor (in the right hands and not with people who think you can cut a 4X4 chunk of Cedar in split seconds) this saw is really a rebranded Ryobi BT3100 table saw so if you can't find parts for this try looking up the BT3100, the router table will take any router with the router plate adaptor, the table saw will take a 8" inch dado blade but would suggest 6" as its easier on the motor, dado plates are out there as are zero plates, the complaints I have about this saw have infact been my fault, so if you are having trouble with this saw READ THE MANUAL.

I would recommend this product to a friend.

Worth every penny

Solid construction, all the important parts are superb quality. Hardly any plastic anywhere, so this tool should last me a very very long time. Packaging was superior and all parts arrived 100% (which I find rare in this category). Lots of solid styrofoam headed to landfill, though. Good thing I have huge trashcan.... :) Found a few easter eggs not mentioned anywhere: accessories can be stored with the table saw (except riving knife, kickback safety & the router kit, although that's an easy tupperware "upgrade"). Folding is super easy - both ways (i.e. to storage or travel configuration), I don't have to go back to gym to grow gorilla sized muscles to convert back and forth. On the (slightly) minus side: Because it's essentially and all-metal table it's pretty heavy - two man lift to/from pickup truck bed. I have limited space in my garage, so having a full sized table saw that's easily movable from here to there (i.e. the corner to the workspace) is very important to me, and the fact that it includes router capability is huge for me - one less gizmo taking up space in my garage. I absolutely love this table saw, easily the crown jewel in my tool collection. Thanks Craftsman for a job well done!! Accessories are huge plus and well worth the price. If you noticed this saw is more than twice the price of the next level down from Craftsman, and the accessories must be reason. Several fences and sliding surfaces for all kinds of cuts. I don't even know where to start... A lot of cool stuff. P.S.: You have to work on your manuals though.... the tiny booklet is simply not effective and hard to read/comprehend. And honestly, I deal with technical manuals all the time so I know what I'm writing about here. Create a collection of online manuals and have a ****REAL DOWNLOADABLE .PDF **** document with recommendations, pro tips, etc!!! COLOR PICTURES PLEASE. Some of the drawings are so poorly chosen (i.e. the perspective is terrible!) they are virtually useless. It wouldn't cost you to print the darn thing, just include a link in your manual. The manual looks and reads like something out of the 19th century. If someone spends $500 for a tool, the least you can do is provide $10 manual or failing that, make one available online...?! And what's up with the grammar? Sears is a big company, surely they can find someone to proofread your manuals?! If you had that I would give you 6 stars!!!!

I would recommend this product to a friend.

Seriously dissapointed

I bought this saw with high expectations and was happy the first once or twice I used it. The motor burned up about the sixth time I used it ( ripping a 2x4 ). I went back to Sears and inquired about the warranty and was asked by some young kid if I had purchased an extended warranty. I told him no, I figured the manufacturers warranty would cover it since I had only had the saw about six months. He told me these saws had an open box warranty. I asked just what in the hell is that? He said that if I had taken it out of the box and used it a couple of times and everything worked ok that was it. This saw is junk and I will never buy another craftsman tool as long as I live. I have been a carpenter for 37 yrs and own many craftsman tools but I will never purchase another one because of the way they treat their customers and stand behind their tools.

Very little to compain about

I have owned this saw for several years now and I'm an occasional hobbiest woodworker. I've made several pieces of furniture with it and used all of it's features including dado blades and routers. I bought it for it's space saving feature and it folds away very quickly and easily. The only downsides I have found are that it is an unusual blade opening size so you have to make your own zero clearance inserts. In terms of accessories it is a victim of it's own individuality. The movable section containing the groove for accessories has to be carefully squared each time you use it for a rip sled or a tenoning jig. The fence is a little small and not exactly vertically square to the table. I made a larger slip over fence that takes care of that problem. Someone mentioned the guard - it's as good as any of them which is to say useless. I don't know how to design a blade guard that would actually be useable and apparently the saw manufacturers don't either. All in all it's an excellent product.

I would recommend this product to a friend.
