I was more impressed with this drill than I was expecting. It's a pretty hefty and solid machine with a good smooth and steady operation. The accessories, on the other hand (laser guides, and LED worklight) are quite lacking. The light is very dim, the snakey arm it's on is pretty flimsy, and the lasers are easy to knock out of alignment. Fortunately for me, I don't really need those, but if those are the features you're after, you might be disappointed with this drill.
I had no such problems with the chuck falling out -- quite on the contrary actually. I accidentally installed the arbor upside-down and I had a bear of a time trying to remove it from the chuck.
The biggest downer for me was the depth gauge. I don't know if mine is just defective, but the maximum depth I can set is only ONE inch. So even though the chuck can normally travel about 3.5 inches, when you're using the depth gauge that distance shrinks down to a mere 1 inch. This really limits the effectiveness of this feature for me.
Assembly was pretty easy. I was able to do it by myself (though the top piece is very heavy). But it was the messiest assembly I've ever had. The entire body of the machine (except the plastic parts) was soaked in oil so put on your painting scrubs and find some gloves before you open this box. After it was all set up I had to degrease and then wax the work surface to avoid getting my work-pieces greasy.

I got this for a Christmas present from my wife. Assembly was pretty easy. It's quite powerful. Easy to change speeds. The laser crosshairs are a joke as is the "worklight". The depth gauge IS nice (and seems to be very accurate). My one problem (and it's a big one) is that the chuck doesn't run true. I made sure to clean it very well before installing it, and it is so out of true that drilling holes is scary. So now I have to buy a new (better quality) chuck for it. I would have contacted Sears to try to get a replacement, but I had a nearly unending nightmare trying to replace a belt sander I bought from them that was damaged in shipping. Sears customer service is the absolute worst I have ever had the misfortune of trying to receive help from. Good luck if you ever have a problem with an item bought from Sears, you will need it!

a DIYerI Have had this drill press for around a month and so far it has worked great. Speed change is easy and the dp is very powerful. It is the perfect height not to small but not to big. I have had no problems with the chuck falling off like some people have had.also the spindle runs true which is great.Since it is to tall to be on a work bench I had to make a stand for it and bolted it down. I don't know why so many people are complaining about no were to store the key all you have to do is take some fishing line and tie one end around the key and make a loop in the other and hang it on the drill press. I have used it for steel and wood and it has preformed well.what I don't like is the light is not bright and the lazer went in the trash right away and the finish was not great.the instructions were some what confusing with speed change. Over all I really liked this and felt that this was the best drill press for the money but you must add a dp table because the included table is 2 small for wood working.
a DIYerI have my drillpress setup to make knives. I added a retractable key ring to hold the chuck key (hose clamped) right under the head and made it just the right tool for me. I looked at a lot of drills before I bought this one and this one fit what I wanted, The light isn't bright enough but I'll fix that. Read the instructions and it'll go together right, I had NO problems at all.
