Craftsman  43'' Adjustable Roller Stand

Purchased this roller stand last year and have done several projects over the fall/winter in the garage. This thing worked great and was so convenient....until the locking mechanism stripped and now the roller freely moves up and down. Too bad I can't lower my table saw to match. On hindsight, the awesome price of this stand should have been an indicator and now I see several common reviews with this flaw. I did pick up from a past review to use a C-clamp to keep the roller in place. At least I can use it in a pinch until I upgrade. I love Craftsman products, but I'm not purchasing this one again. Lesson learned.

To tighten up the height adjustment you have to tighten it up a whole lot so that it does not slip. Even then it may slip. They can improve on this.

I bought a pair of these to help support wood when using my table saw. I've seen similar that were quite a bit more expensive. I also liked that this roller has guards on the side that help keep the material on the roller (the guides can be turns out of the way for wider material). The roller is reasonable sturdy and has one adjustable foot to help keep the roller steady. The roller have rounded edges unlike some other rollers. That is a feature I was looking for and was pleased that this roller has that. The locking mechanism needs to be tightened more than I expected to keep the roller positioned, but so far it hasn't been an issue. For the price, and for what I plan to use this for, I feel this was an excellent purchase. You could buy more expensive roller supports, but do you really need to? These work just fine for me.

Once I got the knack of of locking it down, it worked great. However, the locking nut is in a plastic housing and it stripped. Now it's stuck and can't be adjusted. I'm going to have to get creative to fix this poor design. It's too bad they chose to save money on such a low cost item. Embed a metal nut in the plastic housing and this doesn't happen!

Well built and a good value for the money.  Still  representative of the Ceaftsman name.

I was a little scared about this one, but Sears always comes through so I figured I'd give it a try. Well they did it again. First the price was more than right. Second it came assembled, which made me happy. Third it has very little drift. I have paid a great deal more for similar products and not had nearly the same result with drifting. Finally, this thing is heavy duty. The only fault I found was the roller will stick once in awhile. I solved that problem with a hit of spray lubricant. Thanks Sears you make my very limited budget easier to deal with and still have the things I need in my workshop. Great job!

I have always gone first to Craftsman for hand tools. Unfortunately, I am disappointed in the way this Roller Stand has performed. It looks good but.... It has not very easy to adjust to the desired height. And, the height adjustment lock handle stripped out so it is no longer usable for anything unless I use a C clamp or something similar to hold the stand at the desired height.

If you have trouble turning the height adjustment handle enough to make the unit stay tight at your chosen height, here is a quick fix that I have used that worked for me. Remove the height adjustment screw completely from the unit by unscrewing it all the way out. Check the threads on the screw for dirt or metal particles. Take an old tooth brush or small wire brush and brush the threads clean. Next put a drop or two of light machine oil on the threads, and screw the handle back in and out of the unit a few times to oil the inside threads on the unit itself. Finally, remove the handle one last time and put a dab of grease on the very end of the screw, on the flat part that will apply pressure to the roller support tube. Screw it back in all the way and you're done. It should work alot better now.
