I read all the reviews that I could find about different drills. One website was very helpful and only did the cordless drill reviews minus the Hilti and the Snap-On. I found a great offer from Sears that gave me 20% off and also had a lower price. I got a slightly older batch because the newer ones have the new Lifetime Warranty label as opposed to the 10 Year. Opening the box, there is plenty of space with little nooks and crannies that you can shove some driver bits and some extra screws. I purchased a Makita 29-piece jobber length drill set and it fit perfectly inside the box with room to spare. The location of the drill inside the box is located by the hinge and when upright, the drill is upside down. I added a piece of foam padding to cushion it a little. Out of the box, the drill is very light compared to other full-sized drills. It has a nice balance to it that doesn't make it seem it is leaning forward or backwards. The cushioned grip is very nice if you don't use gloves and when wearing gloves, leather or latex, the buttons for forward/reverse are easy to manipulate. The (2) 3.0 Ah batteries come partially charged. My guess is for testing ALL the batteries at the factory. I was able to drill 20 or so 3/4" holes before then died. Once fully charged, 45 minutes, they are absolutely POWERFUL! I've built (2) wooden gates 60h x 52w and I'm still only on my first battery. That included drill holes and driving the bolts. The speed selector switch is a little odd. I goes up to 22, for the torque setting, then you have to turn it to the 24(high speed) which is also the speed for drilling. Drill in the horizontal and vertical position was very effortless. combined with my drill bits, it was very easy and the weight of the drill alone was enough to "push" through the wood while still being very light. The driver part of it, with it's clutch, work without a hitch. As others have stated about the light, I LOVE it. Other drills have a built-in light that only turns on when you press the drill button. this can stay on separately so you can see where you want to drill without turning on the drill, great job! My drill came with an amber LED light, which I am not a fan, but it does work and turn off automatically after 15 minutes. I wish it came with a bright white LED as opposed to the amber. The other Hitachi cordless tools do not fair too well compared to Makita or Milwaukee but since I'll be using the Drill/Drilver 80% of the time, i decided to get this drill and sacrifice on the other tools. Don't make the mistake others are buying and get the 1.5 Ah combo, stick with the 3.0 Ah and you'll be good for a lifetime, literally!

After running the gamut of cordless drill usages for 30 years, I've Finally Arrived! Let's see, from drills of 3.6, 7.2, 12, 14.4, 15.6, 18 and 19.2 Volts, only the Craftsman 19.2 C3 drill had meet my total needs (past 8 years)! However, wanted to step-up my shop cordless drill by outfitting with the new Lithium-Ion Battery technology. Consistent Power, Long Shelf Life, Quick Charging, High Current Output and Low Weight really makes the Lith-Ions desirable, for Pros or the homeowner, so decided to take the plunge. Craftsman Lith-Ion appeared the way to go, but after researching all of the newest cordless Lith-Ion products on the market, found the HITACHI 18V 3.0 Ah HXP to be unbeatable in all the categories. The Hitachi DS18DL is at the top of several on-line drill reviews. including all the Pro brands. It is a little more than the Craftsman in price, but substantially less than most of the other professional brands of great cordless tools. Plus, Hitachi now offers a LIFETIME Cordless Tool Warranty...Can't better that!! I've not been disappointed! You can read about specs and the reviews, but I can safely say that this Cordless Hitachi DS18DL is Absolutely Solid in use! This Drill-Driver has a huge amount of torque (570in.\lbs.) and feels and works as well in my hands as any of the top corded power drill tools I own. It is Very Close to the Power and Torque of my corded drills (all professional), but with a Lot More in the way of convenience!! I purchased this drill in a Hitachi 6-piece 18V Lithium-Ion Combo kit, but feel this drill is probably the Strongest unit of them all. However, the Impact, Recip, Circular and Grinder are No Slouches and can hold their own against any of the competition. I've been well pleased with All of these powerful Hitachi cordless tools!!!
