Craftsman 25574 7.8 amp Corded 6-1/8" Twin Cutter Electric Saw

Dissapointed - Returning January 03, 2012

Very dissapointed, since it's such a great concept.   First..The blade guard is simply unmanagable unless you are doing anything but a starting edge cut on clamped material.   I know all blade guards are annoying, but there's no easy way to hold this one open. Secondly... I was hoping this saw would have minimal kick-back but that's not the case.   One blade always seems to contact first or more than the other and it will kick back like crazy...and it's especially hard to control since you have one hand on the plastic blade guard.  Third complaint is that after just 3 cuts the hard plastic blade guard and spring are rubbing the blade and not returning it to the covered position.   Fourth problem is...this saw is just not made well...it's heavy and awkward and just feels "home made"   The metal blade shield is big and awkward.  The case is metal and gets very hot while using it.  The third time I used it I had to wear a glove due to overheating.   It's easy to see this was a great invention with poor engineering and poor ergonomics.   A shame since it's such a great idea.   I'm returning it this evening....if it gets redesigned...I'd love to try a new model.  It cuts well.

Specialized Fabrication Twin Cutter Saw December 28, 2011

I've been eyeing a twin cutter saw purchase for awhile. The versatility, low kickback and clean cutting attributes of these twin blade units seemed features that I don't have in my tool arsenal. A Christmas gift card and a great low price was all I needed in getting the Craftsman 6 1\8th Twin Cutter Saw!

Out of the box, I found the see-through guard very wobbly...had to remove the metal guard assembly and remount it to tighten up on the plastic guard travel. The unit runs well, but found after 10 minutes of use, the gear head got hot to touch. Guess this is the reason for the 30-on\10-off minute duty cycle (has to cool down)! I've not yet pushed it beyond the 10 minutes, but have the 3yr. ext. warranty on it in case it doesn't hold up!

Cut control is good and fast in 3\4 plywood, haven't tried any metal cutting yet. Overall, this twin cutter tool appears well made, comes with a nice case and a set of wax sticks for metal cutting.

twin cutter saw smooth cut October 16, 2011

My project was in a confined space. My travel camper header, over the slideout, was rotten. I needed a tool that was has a low profile and make a clean cut thru screws and staples within 1 inch of the ceiling. I did not want to remove the 13' slideout (due to it's weight and size). The saw fit in the space above the slideout (which was around 7 inches)and made a clean cut. I read previous reviews and learned the saw had a working/cool off time. The saw does get very warm, but I would use the saw for 5 minutes or so then let it cool off, while the dust was settling. The saw has alot of torque. I started to hold the saw with one hand (due to my limited working space), but the saw was trying to rotate in my hand. The saw is on the heavy side, but what do you expect from a compact tool that has two, opposite rotational, blades. I'm very pleased with the performance of the saw.

I was given this saw as a gift from a friend. I tried it out when I got it it seemed ok. A year later while cutting up some light metal the outside blade stopped turning. Took saw apart and the pinion gear was flattened out. I ordered another for 15.99 and shipping 8.99 .You have to understand the part was so small it would fit in a envolupe and mailed for .46 cents. The post office said it has boxes if it will fit in the box it will go for 4.99. I put the saw back togeather and everything turning like it is soposed to . It only lasted about 20 minutes blade stopped turning. Pinion gear must be made out of something soft or from china. Do not buy this saw"""""
