Milwaukee 18 V drill for A/C duct and unit installation. August 19, 2010

I have the 19.2 V craftsman EX drill, circular, sawzall combo that I bought in 2002 and the charger went dead. I have been doing A/C work my whole life and wanted a lighter drill that still had the power. I did some research and settled on this baby. It is worth the money and has what I need for all my jobs. I use it to cut holes in heavy gage metal with my hole attachment that hooks to my drill and this drill does not bog down at all. The LED is also nice when working under a house or in an attic trying to shoot screws through small holes. As someone who uses a drill every day and needs one for heavy use I would recommend this for all residential construction use, most commercial use and all your around the home needs. If you need more power and are doing heavy commercial construction every pro has a corded drill, but this drill will do what you need for a good price.. A++

Owned a Craftsman Professional 13.2v for about 9 years and finally lost one battery to failure, and feared the other was close. Purchased the Milwaukee 18v Li-Ion drill/driver and noticed first its weight and balance compared to my Craftsman drill. The Milwaukee feels better and after long use doesn't seem to fatigue me as much. There are days that I can use this drill for about 12 hours one battery after another. Charge time has been about 40 minutes and the drill will last me about 30 minutes of use depending on what I am drilling or driving. Power curve is very good maintaining most of it's power until the battery dies off. Here are a couple of projects it has done so far and notes on the performance.

Drilled 1/4" hole into concrete x4. Drove 3-1/2" lag into hole. Total time was only about 10 minutes, battery never got hot, or worn down and drill was ready to use next project without hardly noticing any power drain.

Sunk #8 2-1/4" screws through fencing and into 2x6. 6 screws each board with a total of 56 boards. Total time (with breaks and cutting of boards to length) about 6 hours. Finished first battery, used second and finished on First battery after one recharge. New electrical smell finally gone from drill, battery got warm on 2nd one but not hot, it had the most use in a short time.

Drilled 8 3/8" holes through 1/8" steel for bracket on trailer x2. Drilled low speed with Craftsman Cobalt 3/8" bit and 3in1 oil to cool bit. Each hole took about a minute. Didn't go through a battery charge.

Anyhow so far I have been very pleased with this drill. I loved my Craftsman drill and was sad to have to replace it, but so far have noticed very good build and performance from the Milwaukee. Can't wait to get into some woodworking projects with this drill.

The drill is very top heavy and there is very little material  in between the motor and the handle. My drill fell from a few feet and broke in half. This would be a good drill for a homeowner doing a couple jobs around the house. Do not buy for everyday use.
