    Durable torque wrench March 08, 2012

    This torque wrench is a very good tool. The range of the torque is what amazed me the most. Not only that but it does not take a lot of strength to use this at any setting. It works great and torques correctly right to the amount of torque that you need.

    Is This Replacing Microtork Series of Torque Wrenches? November 28, 2011

    While online, I was debating whether to purchase this or the similar Microtork wrench (Craftsman 44595) which has been around for awhile.  Both were on sale at the same price.  But, I decided to give this wrench a try because it was considered a new item.  Besides the redesigned handle (which is not really much of a difference), guess what else is new about it that they don't tell you online.  It is made in China while the old one was made in the USA.  Furthermore, they still call the new one Microtork on the box while online they call it Micro-Clicker to differentiate between the old and the new.  I guess they are phasing out the old one in both this size and the other two sizes that are 3/8" drive.  After seeing if maybe I wanted to swap this new style I bought with the old style, I look at inventory in the stores near me and see it is dwindling for the old Craftsman 44595.  The single old one they had left at the store near me look like it had been opened.  So, I didn't bother switching.

    Also, the packaging for this new wrench, while sturdy, is not user-friendly.  The clear top cover is held on by 6 Philips screws.  This makes it a nuisance everytime you want to take it out of the box.  It is as if Craftsman doesn't want you to reuse this box as a case  Instead, the box should be a case with a simple cover with latches and pin-style hinges.  Now, as of this writing, if you want to buy a case that fit the old 44595 for about $8, you have to shop for it online and have it shipped (provided that they fit with the new handle design).  Store-pickup is not an option at all no matter where you live.  In my opinion, it is not worth buying a new case for this wrench.  Just treat it gently with the nuisance case you are provided.  The old wrenches came in either a snap on lid or a case; It never seemed consistent.

    My father has had the old 1/2" drive Microtork for a good 4 years now, maybe longer.  Despite using it with great care, his leaks a bit of oil in the case when stored, but it still works.  However, I hope it has maintained its accuracy.  Hopefully, after owning my new wrench for awhile, it won't leak oil either.  Now that it is made in China, I doubt the durability of these Craftsman clicker-type torque wrenches have improved.  I have read many times that the old Microtorks do not hold up well.  However, I wonder if some of those who had problems forgot to wind their wrenches down properly when they were done using it.  Overall, if you need a decent torque wrench, you can't beat this for the money when on sale.  Therefore, I consider this item 3 stars for being average.

    The wrench works well. Feels substantial. the plastic lock ring is different than the locking mechanisms I am used to. Good value for the money.

    I bought this torque wrench to rebuild my engine, after torquing down about 4 bolts the clicker began to stop working and the wrench would no longer tighten the bolts. After playing around with it, it began to work again but requiring playing with every couple of bolts. After finishing the engine, I have doubts that some of the bolts were torqued down to what they should be as one of them came loose. I would recommend you avoid this tool.

    This tool seized up after torquing 2 tires to 89 ft lbs. seemed like it torqued and clicked then went to far on itself. After it broke i noticed the locking mechanism wasnt working andI could twist the handle freely.
