Craftsman  14-Inch Band Saw

Havent used it a whole lot-need to get a blade the is more suited to my needs-but it runs well, tracks straight, and seems able to do the job I bought it for.

Great saw if you can get it on sale. If you add a rikon fence and a good blade it will work like a much more expensive saw.

I have always wanted one of these and now that I have one I love it...

This is a reasonable entry into the 14" band saw class, but like most Craftsman tools that I own, it lacks in some areas. One misconception that I asked my local Sears store to correct is the advertised "quick blade tension release". There is no lever or other "quick" release method, only the tension release **** on the top that adjusts the tension. Its resaw capacity is only 8", quite a bit less than other saws in its class. Its no-frills base is solid but that's all. The table is iron and mine isn't quite flat across the blade installation channel. The wheels are aluminum, not iron, and so it doesn't have the powerful drive of some. It is dual speed, which is nice, and has two dust extraction ports, a 4" on the side and a 2.5" (?) on the front. Blade changes and bearing adjustment is simple enough, though I thought it a little difficult to keep the bearings quite where I wanted them. Cuts Straigt and Smooth

I looked at some other 14 inch band saws that were over twice as expensive. I am very happy with this model. It doesn't come with a fence or a light so I bought a Kreg fence and a Dewalt light to put on it. In the end I have as good - quality bandsaw for still about 50% of the cost and I got it delivered,to the local store for free. It came with a stand but I made my own so that I could get the table at the height I wanted and put it on casters. The resaw capacity is realistically 8" which I think is less than advertised but it does a great job cutting a straight line even through a hard wood like mahogany with a narrow blade. I bought good Laguna blades to put on it but even the one that come on it is a good basic blade.

I was excited about this saw due to the features of having a two speed for a great price. The saw came well packed and great shape. Last step of the assembly was about how to change speeds by adjusting the belt. It comes default set at the high speed. The big problem here is the belt tensioner pully was WAY to far in. When the belt was put on the outer guides, the tensioner pulley was so far in it would not even grab the belt. Looked at several displays to see if mine was just manufactored wrong. All tensioners were too far back but one display saw did manage to just be out enough to grab the belt...but barely. There is no adjustments for this. It all depends on the positioning of the mechanism when it is welded at the factory. So before you start assembling this saw...CHECK the belt tensioner position for when the outer low speed belt guides are used. If the belt is barely on the tension pulley edge...do not waste any more of your time. Just send it back.

Great saw set up was a little confusing but in the end made perfect sense. Cuts great with very good control, love it. One of my best buys for the shop.

purchased the saw 2 weeks ago and it came with a 1/4 in blade. The tires are 5/16 off. The top wheel is too far out with no way to adjust it. I contacted sears and it was like I asked them how to preform brain surgery. The saw seemed to be of good quality but if it can't be trued up it is of no use!! Until this problem is fixed I can't recommend this saw!!
