I've owned craftsman ratchets for a very long time now, even dating back to the original ones with the metal L/R selector on the back of the ratchet. I have always thoroughly enjoyed the lifetime warranties on Craftsman ratchets and as such have replaced a few under warranty.
I was a bit upset when I took an old ratchet in with a metal selection tab and received one with a plastic tab instead. Ever since then I've been on the prowl for older ratchets with the metal tab on the back. I came across these on the craftsman website and ordered them immediately once I saw they had metal selector tabs. They showed up packaged pretty poorly and rattling around loosely in a box, but they were still in perfect shape and had held up nicely. I've since used them for several automotive tasks without a problem at all.
Other thoughts:
They fit very well in your hand, and have a good amount of weight to them which makes them comfortable to use. I also like how they ratchet and click over a very small degree. The 1/4" ratchet is especially nice for this reason. You can get into a tight place and still manage to use the ratchet very effectively. I'm glad the craftsman quality is back again

This ratchet set is not something i would really recommend. I am not thrilled about their 1/2 in. ratchet since there is not much leverage. I also don't find it to be very durable. The 3/8 is a little more durable and functional but i am still not a big fan. The 1/4 in. ratchet is definitely a good buy b/c is is not used for heavy duty applications. It is small and does a good job.

Yes we all know about the feel and quality from previous posts, so i won't go into that. After wanting these for over a year, I finally gave in when Sears sold for $69 earlier this week. They arrived last night and i've already put to use. In short, a great product, great deal! They look great sitting next to my Craftsman sockets! And guest what...NOT MADE IN CHINA. Made in these United States!! That rumor is simply not true-at lease not in my case. Don't be surprized if they deliver these rattling around in a small box with peanuts covering the outside of the box. Doesn't make sense. But no damage what so ever. I can see my hand getting tired after a couple hrs, their a little weighty. I should have got them personalized to impress my friends. Makes a great Hand-Me down to my sons in the future. On an other note, i have a stubby gear wrench that broke. Went to Sears, AND NO QUESTIONS ASKED return. With in seconds, yes seconds I was out the door and back to work! Makes me glad Craftsman is more avail. than Snap-On.
Sears has moved these overseas to a Chinese factory...no longer stamped "USA". Grab the ones in the stores you can because the US ones are fantastic. Also goes to show what good a warranty is worth...you spend money on an American product only to have it replaced by a Chinese one when warrantied. Whatever. Done with Sears.
These ratchets are great. You can definently feel the difference. They are pricey, but when I put my hands on the 3/8 drive handle, I was hating myself for waiting so long to get them. They respond way better than originals as well. I use snap-on at work and these put those to shame. If you found this review helpful please click the icon.
techThis is a pretty good ratchet set. The internal mechanism appears to be pretty sturdy. There are two downsides that I see is in this ratchet. 1) the ratchet is not sealed very well... therefor easy to get dirt and gunk into the mechanism. The o-rings are pretty much useless. 2) The ratchet action is not very tight. This cheapens the fit and finish. This definitely not a tool for a professional. These ratchets would be OK for wrenching at home. That said, it is a good compromise between the average ratchet and a pro-quality ratchet. Overall, a pretty good buy for the price.
