    Craftsman 283 pc Mechanic Tool Set is the choice for you. April 09, 2011

    I purchased the Craftsman 283 pc Mechanic Tool Set on sale for $349 about a two weeks ago. I buy all my tools from Sears and they must have the Craftsman brand. This particular day I was dead set on buying a new tool box complete with tools. I saw this deal and could not pass it up. I bought it swiftly and took it home even faster. I opened all the sets and stored them away in the proper location and inside the proper cheap plastic tray. When I was finished I was 2 pieces short of a full set, missing the 6pt 6mm and 6pt 5mm 3/8" sockets. I was already upset that this tool box came with uncharacteristic cheap plastic trays for the tools themselves but missing 2 pieces threw me over board. I immediately went to Sears and demanded my mini sockets to complete my set. They did not have them in stock and I was told to come back in a week. After a week passed I did return to claim what is owed to me. Again they did not have them in stock. The clerk took my address and assured me the sockets would be shipped to my house. At this time I am still waiting for the arrival to my Craftsman tool family. I may not have received the sockets as of yet but I was pleased with the service that was given to me both days I came in disgruntled. Thank you Sears. Now back to my tool set. Craftsman short handed me 2 sockets and presented me with cheap plastic tools trays. I am still pleased overall with my purchase. I will always be a die hard CraftsMAN.

    It would have been easy and cheap for Sears to make this right. December 29, 2010

    I have this tool set to supplement my primary tools and to have a more portable tool set to work on my tractors and other equipment. The tools and box are very nice. However, the trays for the drawers are vacuum formed out of a very cheap plastic and I expect that they will deteriorate quickly. Also, the 40 hex wrenches are packed in a zip lock bag. The other hex wrench sets I own have a case or simple holder that prevent them from becoming a mixed mess in the bottom of my tool box. Also, there is no wrench roll(s) or tray for 36 combination wrenches. If I do not return this set I will replace the hex wrenches with a set that has its own case and I'll buy wrench rolls for the combination wrenches. I'm not sure how to get around the cheap plastic drawer trays. My other tools and tool chests are all Craftsman. Parts of this set are not to Craftsman's usual standard.

    I found this deal on the Sears web site and thought it was a great deal; $299.24 for the complete set. I drove 85 miles to get it at the closest Sears. Much to my dismay, the deal is for online ONLY. A bit misleading on the site. Instead of honoring the price PRINTED on the sheet I brought from Sears' site, they told me I could order the tools online, wait up to 2 weeks and come back. I was holding the product in my hands, so it's not like they had to order it in. I called customer service and was told that the .com doesn't compare their price with Sears' price. Sears.com vs. Sears store. What is the difference? No matter. I told them that I would not be stepping foot into another Sears again and they could keep their tools. I will either order direct from Craftsman or buy SnapOn. This is the second and last time I have been burned by Sears. Never again!

    I purchased this tool set a few weeks ago. I am impressed with the quality of the sockets and wrenches that came with it. The value for what I received, I consider to be top notch. The sockets sets look and work as great as they look.

    im currently in school for automotive. i had a limited amount of cheap tools that i bought for whatever job i needed to complete. but seeing as im moving in to a profession where quality tools are a must i decided i needed to purchase some quality home use tools. i ordered this set do to the large number of tools and the sale price making them about .80 cents a piece. when i received my tools i was first impressed with the quality of the box for the price of 80 cents. the inserts for the tools have been bashed by earlier reviews but i found that the plastic was not as cheap as others made it seem and with a little care it should last many years.every last tool was there but did need to be sorted to their prospective homes. upon inspection of every tool i could not help but notice the heavy weight and feel of quality in every piece and at 80 cents per piece it was an exciting experience. i will be purchasing snap on tools for the workplace but for really only 2 reasons. 1 i get 50% off thru school. and 2 they make frequent stops to shops making replacement and new tool purchase easier and faster. but all my home tools will be craftsman and when i finally own my own shop at my home i will pass the craftsman tools down to my son who is 2yrs and i know they will be just as nice then as they are now.
