Good starter set to have April 02, 2011
This set is a good one to start with. It has the most common ratchet sizes and is great for work around the house. I found myself using most socket sizes from this set for a long time until I came across a couple sizes that I didn't have. For the most part, it is a worthwhile set to have in the toolbox.
I wish the ratchets were more low-profile but I'd be spending a lot more money. For the value, this is reliable and good Craftsman quality. Would recommend to a friend!

The Craftsman 106 pc. Mechanics Tool Set was a disappointment. December 12, 2010
I was disappointed that this set was nowhere near the quality I was expecting from Craftsman. The set included many pieces that were to be used with a ratchet. The smaller ratchet (1/4") was broken - would not hold it's on/off position. The larger ratchet (3/8") was too long to fit in the case that came with the kit. Some of the pieces in the set had either an unclear size, or no size, marked on them. Craftsman tools are guaranteed for life. Unfortunately, the guarantee does not protect against injuries incurred by the user due to poor quality tools. I am not convinced these tools were made in the USA. I got the kit at a good sale price however, due to the poor quality, I returned it.

I bought this set about a year ago and have used it a lot since. So far everything has worked perfectly and got the job done. I especially like the case it came in. Most plastic cases send sockets flying everywhere as soon as you move it, but this keeps everything in place. It could have used a few extensions and such, but i just bought some extra and tossed them in the box. Not really a big complaint. They threw in some bit and hex keys to up the parts count, but i guess every company does that, so its fine.

Crappy ratchets!,No 3/8I got this as a starter tool set and it works great. Good variety of sizes, I just bought more larger deep sockets on a leading auction site... for $40 (metric and sae) and a half inch set of sockets $20 for metric $20 for sae and $20 for a ratchet at sears. so for $150 I put together a great kit. All the larger kits at sears just have repeats of the same old sizes and horrible variety so I suggest this as a starter kit and build it up as you go, I got mine for $50! And I just got a 26" 4 drawer tool box for $50, There are some great deals to put together a nice tool set you just gotta look...
Anyways the sockets are very good quality cant complain, the ratchets on the other hand are not the best, I had the 3/8" break on me although I was cranking on it with a 4' breaker bar on a lug nut lol. I went to sears they opened a drawer and gave me a rebuilt one, so it seems like they have had to replace more than one of these before... Also it seems like they do not have a good ratcheting angle.
I definately wouldnt pay $99.99 for this but for $50.00 great deal! Christmas sale...
I went on a leading auction site and got a nice USED willaims and snap-on ratchet and I am set, now I just gotta step up from my harbor frieght combo wrenches for some craftsman and I'll be a PRO!!!!!!!!!! Sorry if I rambled dont do to many reviews and thought my tips may help someone. Thanks for reading!
P.S. I also got the 3 ton Jack, jack stand and creeper set for $89.99 and the jack is already leaking internally after 5 months (wont stay up for more than 10 minutes, granted I almost always use jack stands but I have family member who dont always and im worried they could get hurt I cant do a warrenty exchange cause I lost the receipt so be wary of craftsman jacks unless you get a nicer one...
