Best 1/4 ratchet out there April 14, 2008

I also own the 3/8 and 1/2 version of this same ratchet (bought all 3!) and love them all. Speaking specifically about this 1/4in model, I have to say that it absolutely puts the newer ones to shame. I have two other Craftsman 1/4 ratchets and they do not compare at all to this one. Looser, less reliable and not nearly as strong. This ratchet, on the other hand, is probably the best 1/4in model that Craftsman has ever produced. You can't break these things and you can't wear them out. Don't waste your money on Snap Off, because these are a much better buy. The quality of this ratchet line is far and away the best for the money. Give one a try and you'll be hooked.

needs some work July 20, 2009

This has the potential to be a great ratchet. The one I received was nearly impossible to change direction on, the little lever would not move. Returned it and got another just as bad. I took the second one apart and applied some grease to the mechanism and it works somewhat easier and gets better as I use the ratchet.

Ideal ratchet... if sears improves quality control. May 05, 2010

    Pros:
Fine tooth mechanism,Built in speeder wheel,Double paws for strength,Quick release mechanism
    Cons:
    Sears quality control

I love these kind of ratchets.  They offer almost all the attributes that you might want in a ratchet.  Strong double paw mechanism, built in speeder wheel, quick release function, fine tooth movement and consequently a smaller 8 degree ratchet swing for tight areas.  Its unfortunate that sears can't get their quality control issues fixed.  It seems to me that its hit or miss with the assembly of these ratchets and I find it to be a shame.  I love them of course but either its awesome or your gonna need to get a new one before you even start.  I haven't used this 1/4" ratchet long or hard but its already managed to start slipping under light torque.  Now I KNOW that these are stronger ratchets and have others that are very good, so I believe that I have one that was assembled wrong like a few others that I have bought.  One I had broken right out of the box before I even used it.  But man when these work they are great.  So don't let this deter you from getting one since they do have the lifetime replacement and I only had one issue with replacement on these and the rest have been great.  Make sure that you tell the people at the store that its not the regular ratchet but the fine tooth one only available on-line if you need a replacement.  Most good stores should be able to help you within a few minutes.

Nice wrench poor manufacturing and quality control March 25, 2010
    via Sears.com
By hfrogness of Eden Prairie, MN

I have bought this wrench 5 times now and returned 3 from the start, this wrench was not good from the start either but is better than the old one that I stripped. I remember days when craftsman could supply users with rebuild kits, now I need to send this wrench in if it breaks? I am very close to ditching craftsman in favor of Snapon, at least they have tools that work from the start and back them if there is a problem.

I was having a lot of problems with the craftsman cheap basic ratchet. The lever would not stay in place, and after reading the reviews about this ratchet I decided to buy it. The first time I used it I hear it click and jerk, very similar to a torgue wrench. It felt like the teeth kept skipping....maybe I got a defective one but I'll keep using it until it goes bad. It is definetly better than the basic lever type if you are having problems with the lever disengaging.
