My husband had purchased this ratchet more than 10 years ago. When it broke, we brought it into a Sears store to the hardware department and the associate replaced it with no problem. She even gave us a new receipt to assure us that this replacement ratchet had the same warranty as the original. This was my first encounter with the Sears warranty and I was totally impressed. I wouldn't want to purchase tools anywhere else!

The quick-release and thumb-lever direction change are great features. Unfortunately, the rest of the ratchet is just average. The gear mechanism is very coarse. I believe it only has 45 teeth while many competitors have 60 or more. The handle isn't very comfortable but I usually wear gloves so that doesn't bother me.
This is ratchet is okay for occasional use. If you need it more often, step up to Craftsman's thin-profile line.

This has been the only Craftsman tool I have ever had to have replaced. The ratchet system failed the tool didn't break. The replacement is even better than the old one. Ed McCook, Nebraska.
Although this is not the ratchet my dad handed down to me, it is quite a bit the same. The look and feel are the same as my dad's original ratchet, but the quick release is made out of plastic. It has lasted the three years that I've had it since my wife bought me a new set of sockets that it came with. The ratchet works just as hard as its predecessor does, and I hope it is around long enough for me to hand it down to my five or seven year old. I am sure it will be here for my twenty-one and fifteen year olds to use around the garage in the mean time. They have their own tools, Craftsman that my wife and I have bought for them, but they seem to prefer to use my tools for some reason unknown to me. I guess it is because I like to return them to my tool box and they do not have to look for theirs when they want them. As a mechanic, I have come to love the feel of a quality tool in my hand. Craftsman tools provide that, and they have a quality that is of great importance to me. The price is much easier on the budget than other quality mechanics tools, and the warranty is just as good. Thank you Sears for both.
I have been around Craftsman Tools all of my life. My father used them and his father before him. When my son turned 16 I bought him his first toolbox with Craftsman Tools in it. One of the tools that I made sure was in it was a 1/2" drive teardrop ratchet. It's a very versatile tool, which with the right attachments can be used for anything.
Engineer, exp'd, adeptworks great when it is not broken. Used to be when Craftsman tools were purchased a person could depend the tool would last. This no longer the case. This was another replacement and I am hoping this one lasts.
It is sad that although Craftsman is a fairly decent tool, it is NOT built like it was even 20 years ago. Thank God for the warranty or I would NOT be purchasing Craftsman tools now.
