Okay, so the old opener was installed be my stepson's girlfriends uncle. Anyone else see a problem yet? The opener was installed, wait for it, INCORRECTLY, and without directions. It was "NEW" if you don't count the 8 to 10 years it sat on the floor at the uncle's house. But hey, it was free. That worked for about 3 months and had to be "adjusted" and worked for about another 3 months when the motor got stuck and the door went neither up nor down. I'm just thankful my garage door was not damaged from installing it without directions. The next day I went to my local sears, bought the "NEW" opener and had it installed the next day. So far no problems.Opens and closes nice and smoothe. It doesn't jerk the door up or slam it down, it's actually pretty quiet. The "OTHER" opener was so loud the dogs went crazy every time I came home. With the new opener I can walk into the house and suprise them. I don't recommend anyone else do that unless you're not fond of your appendages. The new opener came with 2 remotes and a keypad. I would recommend this opener to everyone. PROS. opens and closes smothe and quiet, has a wireless key pad and for $24.99 two years of service and warranty. ( Come out 2 times a year to check it, oil it and adjust it if needed.) CONS. Only has 2 remotes, additional remotes are 40 bucks a pop. So with all that said, go buy one.

Purchased the new garage door opener about two years ago and 2 out of the 3 remotes don't work at all even with new batteries and yes pressing the learn button on the system was pressed. The one that works is very spotty as well. Need to tap it on the dashboard a few times before it works. Not happy at all.

conservativeMore secure than old type openers and very reliable. Adding another vehicle for our family use makes it wonderful to have an opener for each vehicle. It was shipped to quickly, faster than other companies get things to us that we have ordered.
a do-it-yourselfer
This works fine, but it has a very limited range. I almost have to get up to the door before it opens.
Educated consumerThe Craftsman garage remotes have a serious design flaw, casuing the buttons to cease functioning after only a few months of use. Two of our 4 original remotes stopped working altogether, and a third is on it's way out (numerous presses to get it to actally work). This is NOT a battery issue. I believe that there may be a version of a competitor's product (Liftmaster) that could be compatible. I've ordered two of these from ******, and will post another review with the details if it works out well. I don't want to give the model number until I confirm compatibility.
From what I can tell looking at the board inside, the competitor's product seems to use higher quality components (particularly, the switches). The garage opener itself should be fine, as Sears, Liftmaster & Chamberlain are essentially identical.
