Garage door opener opens the garage door like it's supposed to April 02, 2011
I have two 9' garage doors and decided to install an opener on one of them. I methodically went through the instructions and planned the installation carefully. It went very smoothly and worked the first time.
I had a little trouble getting it to shut tightly without the door resetting itself and coming back up, so the door sits with about 1/4" gap between the bottom of the door and the concrete floor. A little finer control would have been nice, but it's fine the way it is.
I have owned screw-type openers and belt-type which are both significantly quieter but noise was really not an issue for me. This opener is not terribly loud, but it isn't as quiet as the aforementioned openers.
I also installed a keypad on the outside of the garage door which is extremely handy. It couldn't have been easier to install.

Opens by itself. February 02, 2011
I installed unit myself - pretty easy especially my previous one was from Sears too. After installation I noticed that when I come home from work, garage door is open, while I distinctly remember to close it when leaving home. So, it's opens by itself and this happening once in pretty long time (may be 24 hours or so). This can happen during the night, or when you on vacation. It called phantom operation. I called to Sears warranty department, but they didn't accepted my claim because I didn't install new opening terminal (button). I install it now and will wait until it happens again. Will update the review. So far - 0 stars.

Direct replacement for old opener,easy install,smooth open and closeI ordered #53920 on line for store pickup.Next day E-Mail from Sears stated ready for pickup at my selected Sears location. The model I ordered (53920) was not available so they gave me Model 53985 instead. This model was installed with no problems and has more safety features then 53920.However I have Model 53920 that was installed on my other door about ten years ago and still kikin. Very happy with both. Thanks Sears.

Old remotes do not work with newer model,Really could use two remotes˝ HP Craftsman garage door opener. Sprocket shaft broke under sprocket. When that happens the door can slam. In my case it did not brake till it was almost closed. Purchased some time in 2000. Unit has worked good for 11 years. Could be dangerous if it falls on some one when it brakes. Is this a common problem? Does this opener have any recalls? Should I call the CPSC? Part number 41A4315-7D CANADA 100 241A
