40" 8 drawer chest March 27, 2011
I have owned this top chest for a few months now. I have owned snap-on and other great boxes. This top chest is an excellent buy for the money. I work in an automotive repair facility and my box is used extensively. Opening and slamming shut the drawers and they hold up to the abuse. When my bottom box fails i will buy the match to this top chest. What the heck I my just go out and buy it to match my top chest.

Sears should be assamed of the quality December 14, 2010
Craftsman tools have always been in my family and I have grown to appreciate good quality and a good warranty, however, sears quality has slowly been declining.
I purchased this box and the matching bottom for in-store pickup. When it arrived, I first went to the tool dept to look at it. I was so disgusted with the quality, I didn't even want it anymore (and I only paid $220 + tax) over 60% off. This box should would be appropriately priced at $199, and then a good deal would be $99.
I guess sears has decided that their Craftsman name is so good that it alone can carry the company. At least with the tools, if they fail (and they do more often now because the quality is slipping) they will replace them with no questions asked. Beware that it does not work this way with their tool boxes. There is no such warranty for these boxes.
Folks, you generally get what you pay for, unless you are foolish enough to overpay for these toolboxes (and then you just get screwed). If you buy these boxes, just know that you are getting mediocre at best. If you are fine with that, maybe this is the box for you.
For me, I'll go back to Snap On toolboxes. Yes they are expensive, but they are made in the USA still, and really will last a lifetime. Even the value line if far superior to Craftsman. If you can't afford Snap On, maybe try a used one. You'll be happier in the long run.

Drawer Guides are Smooth and Strong,Well BuiltBall bearing drawer slides are smooth. You do need to occasionally spray them to keep clean. Two latch design is nice. Just don't try to slam the drawer fully closed as this can bend latch tab.. Overall good for the price

can't lock all the drawersSo far, this is a good piece of gear. I bought all three sections and I haven't filled them up yet. I was surprised that the locking mechanisms in the eight drawer chest only lock the hinged top and the top right drawer, especially since the lower companion 14 drawer base locks all 14 drawers with only one lock. If you want to lock up all your tools, then this chest might not be for you.
Overall, I think this was a good purchase; I just wish the locking mechanisms would lock all the drawers.
