Kenmore Drop-In Bobbin is Pretty Nice! April 02, 2011
Well, I recently went to Sears to purchase a sewing machine. I'm a really crafty person so I like to experiment with designing clothes or totes. I'm actually pretty satisfied with this sewing machine because I can perform all of the corrections or stitches I want. It's relatively easy to use and quiet as well. I hope it lasts a while. I'd recommend it to a friend!

Good machine, bad motor September 20, 2010
My wife got this machine for Christmas in 08 and used it 3-4 times in 09. Then this summer she started making a quilt and after only about 10 hours of use, (so probably 20 in total) the motor died. There were no bad smells, no running hard or anything to tell us something was not going well. Now to replace the motor it is 100 dollars plus 15 dollars shipping. If we were to have sears do the repair 70 in labor! That is just too expensive for a machine like this.

doesn't have a hard coverI have had this for about 2 1/2 years now. I am thrilled with this machine. It has a problem sewing 5 or 6 layers of denim. You have to sew very slowly. I have been sewing for about 30 years and I have been thru a lot of machines and I like this one the best! I sew a lot of marine vinyl and I have to use baby powder to get it to feed but no other problems. I would recommend the service contract with Sears because you can get the machine serviced and cleaned once a year at no additional charge! Plus the peace of mind if it should break. So far in the time I have had this it has not had to be repaired because it has not let me down. I use the machine a few times a month, but when I use it I will use it off and on for 6 to 8 hours a day for 2 to 3 days. The machine did not come with a decent cover so I used some left over marine vinyl and made a special cover with pocket for accessories. The manual that came with it was great! Explicite instructions on how to use all of the different feet. GREAT machine for the price!

Does not stop needle downWhen I bought this machine, I loved it! But I have to agree with the previous review about the bad motor. I too only used my machine 3-4 times, and was in the middle of a light weight decorative quilt when the motor died. I left to adjust the fabric and when I returned it just wouldn't start again. No warning of any kind, no odor, strange noises, or even hesitation when stitiching, JUST STOPPED!

no local servicei bought this machine to treat myself last year...it is my 4th kenmore in 30 yrs. i do a ton of sewing! i sew everything from wedding clothes to carhardts(work clothes). i use a leather needle for denim and duck, corduroy and fleece. i find i have no problem sewing thru multiple layers of heavy fabric with the leather needle. i like the needle up/down button, use it all the time. i am on the go and sometimes i have to go while in the middle of a seam, put the needle down and come back to it later. i also like the drop in bobbin, never had one, but my next machine will have this feature.. i havent mastered the buttonhole foot yet, it irritates me, only because i'm old (haha) old dog, new trick, so used to my last machines that all used the same foot. i would recommend this machine to any beginner to pro, ease of use, heavy enough so it doesn't scoot. i also want to mention, my last machine i got because my previous machine had a 25 yr head warranty, after 17 yrs a metal part failed and i received a new machine for free! try that with another machine!
