Easy to Set-up and Dependable May 02, 2009
This is my first sewing machine purchase, although I have used my mother's since I was a teenager. I did not need a machine that could sew half the clothes needed for the Eastern Seaboard, leather jackets, or upholstery for furniture. I did want one, however, with more features than my mother's which could also handle the light work I needed it to do. This machine has worked flawlessly for me, and it has done everything I have asked of it. I love the threading system and have had no problem with the power, although, I am not trying to use it for more than its' intended design. I highly recomend this sewing machine for beginners and intermediates alike. The light is more than adequate, although, elder men or women may want to add extra lighting to enhance their sewing experience, my mom included. This would be a wonderful addition to any household and is definately user friendly. Note: I just can not give any product 5 stars that I have had for less than a year, thus the 4 star rating.

NOT For Medium-Weight Sewing Needs January 11, 2009
I gave this review 2-stars because I was not very impressed in this Singer model. I own 8 machines and 3 of them are Singers (newer & old), The machine does GREAT for light-weight fabrics but will NOT handle anything heavier. In fact, the stitches bunch up. I got this as a gift at the holidays and took it back. It is a great little machine but the light is VERY DIM and it's hard to see what your sewing. Even with a light over the machine. Another issue --- The feet dogs that move the fabric through the machine are NOT strong at all. In fact, 100% cotton quilting fabric had wavey stitches while sewing because it was too loose in the feed dogs. SAVE YOUR MONEY unless you are a YOUNG sewer and this is your first machine.

I was excited when I saw this Singer Sewng Machine in the store on sale. It was perfect for my daughter-in-law who is just beginning to sew. Has a nice quiet motor and easy to set up the various stiches it has. Bobbins are easy to wind. Excellent investment for her as I know the more she sews she will be ready to upgrade in a couple of years.
Was really glad we purchase the warranty for two years also. She has two small children and I know the Singer Sewing Machine will be used. By getting the warranty she will be able to get her machine fixed when needed and not have to worry about learning a new machine.

This is a great machine! It's easy to use and runs like a charm. I like the automatic needle threader. I happened to catch it for half price at Sears which makes it all the better. This is a great purchase.

The machine works like a charm on most everything . The one major problem with it is the auto needle threader. Continues to be "out of line" and won't thread until my son has to repair it AGAIN! May be okay for a beginner or someone that can see well enough in its dim light to keep rethreading it. Thread also gets bunched up on the inside and I've had to remove the end about 3 times and cut out the thread that's jammed. The chrome part where thread passes through on the piece that goes up & down has come off twice. I just fixed it and kept on sewing. Good luck. Same machine was only $78.00 in their outlet store online. I should've bought that. I paid $200.00 at the store after returning a $900 embroidery machine for more stupid reasons that it shouldn't have had, either.
