Perfect for my needs and budget. March 15, 2011
I'm glad I can still buy a sturdy mechanical machine. Electronics do great things, but for a basic home sewing machine, it just adds "more to go wrong." Keep it simple!
I ordered the extra needles and presser feet I needed, but now I wish I'd bought the $200 presser foot collection. Feet pretty much last forever. It's nice to have whatever you might need on hand, than have to order it and wait.
I agree with the commenter who said that this was not a "heavy-duty" machine... it doesn't feel as "solid" when it's working through layers of heavy fabrics, but it does the job just fine. (If you do a lot of sewing with layers of canvas or leather, you already know you want a commercial-grade machine).
If you are like me and don't like overpaying for what you need, you'll feel very good about this purchase.

I bought this machine after reading all of the great reviews, I was really excited to buy something recently manufactured that actually worked well! Unfortunately it didn't live up to my expectations. A lot of the reviews referenced quilting and I mainly sew apparel and home decor items, so maybe that should have been a clue. I felt that the power and speed were inferior to the older machines that I currently use. The presser foot was a bit too wobbly to give good pressure when sewing layers together. I was trying to sew some elastic into a bias sleeve hem with, even after grading back the the layers the machine didn't have the power to make consistent stitches. I also did an invisible hem on some pants and the stitches came out funky, it looks like the tension arbitrarily loosened and tightened. Even with being pinned the fabric slipped so much that the seam didn't line up when I got around to the other side of the pant leg. Even after that, the main reason I returned it was that the 20 foot accessory package (#97720) has been out of stock forever. When I called Sears they assured me it would be available soon. Since the time frame for returns was running out, and I don't want a machine that I cannot buy the accessories for I just took it back.

Pros:
Very Easy to Operate,Features,sturdy and reliablei am really enjoying this sewing macine i just bought it for a few small projects but its earned its keep!, most of the other sewing machines i looked at were either to flimsy and i was afraid they would break or to high tech and i was afraid they would break, but this one is great and has al the options i needed as a beginer sower.

Too many languages.,Jumps aroung too much.,Should be only in English.There is too much emphasis on other languages. We are in the USA and the manual should be in English. The instructions jump around too much and are hard to follow . Its like you have to skip around too much to follow the English instructions. After all is said and done the machine itself is great once you wander through the instruction manual. Good warranty and well built machine.

Haven't found any yet!,noneI got this machine after searching out quite a few brands. I already had a Kenmore that I got in 1974 , and it didnot have all the stitches that I wanted. But It still works good. So I started out researching different machines and prices. This one seems to do everything I need to do. I got it home and with just a little reading in handbook, I started using it. I am not very smart when it comes to sewing but this machine makes everything so much easier. I would reccomend this machine for anyone just starting out sewing or someone whose skills are very good. Thanks Kenmore you have done it again.

No quilting foot.,Doesn't handle hevy jean wellBought this for my wife for Christmas, her request, seems she never owned a sewing machine although she had sewn on other people's. She loves it. She has made stuff that I never knew possible.
It's very durable, sews everything. Even quilts. Which she's made about 3 of since she got it. She recently went shopping for a new skirt and when she couldn't find the style she wanted, she just immediately went to the fabric store to get a pattern and material to make her own.
It was easy to learn to use and came with a very imformative manual. Would have been nice if it had a quilting foot with it, but you can purchase one seperately.
