Maybe TMI, but you need to get the picture May 10, 2009
When I was first married (25+ years ago), I had a Kenmore canister vacuum. It moved with us around the country and finally settled in the Northeast. When we were back on the road we, sadly, had to leave it behind. Then came the upright vac nightmares. I've tried them all. I've exchanged them with friends who thought I might like theirs better, but it never worked out. I had been coveting (and missing my) Kenmore canisters for years. This year, I decided, I will buy a new vacuum with my tax refund! With direct deposit confirmation, I was off to the mall. I had to circle the department because someone was looking at the canisters. I secretly panicked that they were going to buy the one I wanted. Then, it was my turn. I knew what I wanted, as I had done my research. The salesperson showed me the one I wanted, then brought this one over. It cost more, but I thought I'd look at it anyway. She turned it on and it was so quiet! Then it's self-propelled! I bought it. Could not wait to get home to use my new vacuum. The self-propelling feature is wonderful. It just goes . . . I did all the rugs, hard wood and tile floors, then the stairs, and all the rugs and tile floors on the second floor. The general consensus among the family is that the floors have never looked so clean. I've since given away my last remaining upright. I don't dread vacuuming anymore, I look forward to it! This machine is a charm and I would recommend it to anyone. In fact, I already have!

Poor Initial Quality December 30, 2008
I bought this vacuum after trying out a friend of mine's of the same model. Hers worked great, but the initial quality of mine was poor. The very first time I vacuumed, the full sized floor tool (I believe it's called the PowerMate) made a noise every time I would pull it backward (normal vacuuming motion). I have tried adjusting the height in every way from X-Low to High, but the noise continued. It seems that it may be a problem with the wheel. I am exchanging it for the same model tomorrow, and am hopeful the quality of the replacement will be better than the first. While a wheel problem isn't earth-shattering, an expensive vacuum like this which is supposedly high quality based on Consumer Reports, should not have ANY issues right out of the box.

I have literally jumped from vaccum to vaccum and I always seemed to find a flaw I just can never find the right one. Then one day I decided to read more on this vaccum because friends of mine have tried it and absolutely love it! So I gave it a go and I would never go back, amazing quality, easy to push and pull, works very well seeing as I have a long haired cat and puppy you would never even know they layed around the whole house, it comes with a long cord which makes it easy and a lot faster for me, and the attachments works great for those stubborn places. I was so amazed with the prize because for the quality and everything that it does and works so smoothly it is very affortable. Take my word for it it definitly does everything that it says it should. Never going back to any other regular vaccum 100% sticking to this one.

After years of using bagless uprights that have no suction and make a mess when you empty them, I finally went back to a vacuum that uses bags and I love it. I had also forgotten how great it is to vacuum under furniture with the power nozzle. Speaking of which, the power nozzle works great on this vacuum. The only problem I have is that it's a little tricky plugging and unplugging the electric part of the power nozzle which is why I gave it four stars instead of five. There are a few plastic latches that seem flimsy but for the price, this is a well-built vacuum.

We've had a Dyson now for 6 yrs and it broke yesterday (11-15-09). I was nervous to go out and purchase a new vaccum because 1: We loved are Dyson and 2: We didn't have $500 for a new one. So I was stuck buying something completely new. Did a little research and decided on the Kenmore upright but, when I got to the store they had the canister right next to the upright. After testing out the upright and determining that it was way to heavy to carry upstairs, I started looking at the canister. I have never owned a canister nor have I known anyone that has owned one. After looking at it a bit I knew this was the one for me. I have 3 children and one more on the way so I'm all about things being easy as possible and not having parts all around the house. The canister is super light and very convient to use. I love how there are no foot nobs to change from floor to carpet. It's all in the handle (off, floor, carpet) and at your thumb. All tools are stored inside of the canister (so you can't see them and your kids don't know that they're there). There is an automatic reel in on the plug. Fits far under beds which you can't do with uprights unless you change to a tool. It has 2 easy releases on the handle for getting edges and cracks (one long and one short). No need to change to a tool for the stairs, fits right on with no trouble. My youngest is now asking to vaccum and it's so lite he can. And if your worried about pulling a canister around the house...don't. I'm so used to always messing with the cord on my upright that I don't even notice the canister. I've vaccumed the house twice now and it seems to suck everything up with no problem and works well on tile floors.
