I have used Kenmore Canister Vacs exclusively for 30 years. They are very well designed, or at least, I am used to the design and have never found anything I like better. Each time I buy a new one, it functions pretty much like the one before, with a few new bells and whistles. This is the first one that I have noticed to be different from the others I have owned in that it seems very lightweight, but not in a good way. It works fine, but seems flimsy and cheap. I have noticed that each new vac I buy seems to last a little less time than the one before. I don't expect this one to last more than 2 or 3 years. But, until I find a brand I like better, I will still be a Kenmore Canister customer.

First let me say that the only reason I gave this vacuum 2 stars is because while it was usable, the suction was very good to excellent, the cord reel worked well, and the power head continued to work well. Because of **************** ratings, I purchased this vac almost 3 years ago from Sears for about $250.00. Within the first year (average use about 2-3 times per month), the floor head started to slip off with slight backward (or pulling) pressure, such as when vacuuming a throw rug or Sisel. (Power head was too strong for this use.) Then the plastic button, which is pressed when attaching the hose handle to the wand, broke off. Not a major problem because the wand still fit VERY tightly into hose attachment - usually so much so that it became difficult to get the 2 parts separated, which increasingly grew worse and was a constant annoyance. Then, at about 2 years of age, the switch stopped working which meant that the only way to turn the vacuum on and off was to plug it in and unplug it. I called the service hotline who recommended a new switch, costing me $20.00+ dollars. I then proceeded to "pry" the handle apart to change the switch, which did nothing, except scratch the handle and break a tab. (They don't make it easy to take apart.) I then googled the problem and found this was a common complaint with the Kenmore canister vacs and involved the relay. (And why didn't service know this?) Then a couple of weeks ago, I plugged the vacuum in (aka turned it on) and the entire vacuum "blew out". It stopped working completely and hasn't worked since. I describe it this way because it sounded like a power surge blow out, as it started to power up, then abruptly stopped. I had been using it for 30 minutes or so and was attempting to switch outlets. My first thought was to check the circuit breaker thinking it had been tripped, but it had not. (After that, I did let it cool down for a while and I did try other outlets.) Kenmore and Whirlpool used to be great appliances, until they started manufacturing them in China. Why the Kenmore Progressive Canister Vacuum is still highly rated by **************** is a mystery to me. Unless you expect to buy a new $300.00 vacuum every 2-3 years, stay away from this vacuum cleaner!

The vacuum is very powerful but the bearings on the powerhead don't seem to last very long. Even the new replacement ($45) didn't last. McCook, Nebraska.
Overall good light vacuum with good suction, brush and bags ... plus retracting electric cord...long wand... with all accessories on board which come off and go on easily. I like the lighted wand, hepa filters and "red, green" dirt detector system on brush.
looking for energy savingsVacuum works well but is too loud, and the attachments are awkwardly placed. Also doesn't have side suction on the powerhead.
