When searching for a new vacuum the one main feature we wanted was the ability to vacuum not only rugs but also bare floors (hardwood floors). At the same time I refuse to pay $500 plus for a vacuum cleaner- it is against my conservative cheapskate upbringing. There a number of vacuums over $500 that fit the bill but when we discovered the Kenmore Intuition upright we were sold on the features and fell in love with the price.
You can go from carpet to bare floor with a finger switch on the handle which disengages the brush. You do have to do a manual adjustment to the height- a foot adjustment would be nice but it is a minor issue that almost all vacuums encounter.
The telescoping hose was another great feature that sold us on this unit. No more fumbling with the hose- trying to hook it into the machine before you can use it- all you do is pull it out of the holder and it is ready to use.
We feel more comfortable knowing the dirt we suck up is captured in a HEPA bag and not a cup that you have to emply. Doesn't the dust fly up when you empty those bagless units defeating the purpose of a HEPA vac?
Oh, did I mention this unit sucks. My wife almost sucked up a hall rug using it the first time. As much or more sucking power than those expensive vacuums.
This could've been one of the best vacuums for the money ever . It has two serious defects first of the small wheels. They won't even go over the metal strip where the carpet meets the floor . The second one is a little more serious . The hose very flexible very long . But the problem is the machine has so much power when it's on you cannot extend unless you are a guerrilla . My fix would be . To put another aluminum section in the collapsible extension . Slightly larger wheels . Then you have a perfect vacuum . Its predecessor had the same problems . Why did you not learn from the first one . I love Sears always have always will . I trust them as a company . Somebody in the vacuum purchasing department is not paying attention . I predict bagged vacuum cleaners will come back big . I owned a Dyson which is the joke . The real joke is I bought it . It is a absolute piece of junk . And to add insult to injury . I paid $500 for it . Hoover and Electrolux have the answer . I have a small apartment cannot justify the money for one of the old but good ones . I look to Kenmore for a good machine for good price . I hope in the near future to be able to have one .
After extensive research I settled on this vacuum. PROS: Great suction. Love the onboard tools especially the pet hair attachment. CONS: Very stiff and hard to move around the carpet. The extension hose hose is very awkward to use. Very clunky trying to remove and use it. Not fond of having to unclamp the hose if I want to use its full length.

I have never reviewed negatively a product, until now. Please do yourself a favor and go to see this item in person if you are even remotely considering purchase.-Heavy, cumbersome, fights you at every turn, trying to go over a carpet from the floor requires you pick it up and put on the carpet..no easy task. Even my weight lifting husband finds this ridiculous. The cord is hard to deal with. The hose doesn't fit properly, it is way too short.I am beyond more than disappointed. What's startling is that we picked this because 'Consumer Reports' recommended it. Shame on you Consumer Reports, I now second guess your reviews. If it was $10.00 I would say 'no thank you'

The vacuum worked really, really well, then it started clogging. I would clear the clog only for it to clog again...and again. It clogged at the point where the variegated hose ties into the rigid hose. I would change the bag frequently and check the filters to be sure suction wasn't being diminished, but everything was fine except for the clogging. Sent it to Sears repair (with most recent clog in place to show them how/where it clogs) hoping they would find something that was causing it. No help there at all. All they wanted to do was charge me $63 to remove the clog (like I wasn't experienced enough to do that myself by now). So I returned it. Now I'm on the hunt for a new upright. I'm so bummed because this vacuum got high ratings from users and Consumer Reports. Hopefully mine was just a lemon.

I'm a diehard Hoover fan.Had /used them for 30+yrs.My 1st vacuum was a used Hoover.Sucked up everything(pet hair to screws)finally died after 10yrs.Tried others:Regina,Dirt Devil.Hated them, only lasted about 2yrs,Back to Hoover.another used, another 10yrs.Finally came to the conclusion, time to replace,I did a lot of online searching.I knew I wanted a bagged vacuum (bag-less just suck) I search at Sears.Even did the online chat with a rep.He recommended this one.I went in person to Sears Hardware outlet and seen this one(on sale to boot) I found myself eying the Hoovers again, but said no let me look.Had every vacuum off the shelf and "test drove" them all.Although this was was heavier then the others,it outperformed the others in the store. It didn't feel cheaply made.I made the leap.Have it 9 months. With 4 dogs it works fantastic.Direct drive(yeah no more broken belts)Attachment hose a little awkward to remove.Bags pricey in store but can be found on ****.Buy it,Buy it,Buy it!

I bought this vacuum three weeks ago and I am very happy with it. My last Kenmore died after more than 10 years. There were a few well-rated vacuums that I was considering. This one seems solid and well-built. It's been doing a good job of vacuuming my carpet and tile floors (I wanted one with a bare floor setting which this one has). My old vacuum had the bare floor/carpet switch on the base of the vacuum but I like how the switch for this one is on the handle as part of the on/off switch. It's much easier to go back and forth between carpet and bare floors (which turns the agitator off). Even the tool attachment isn't all flexible tube. The end of it has a solid, aluminum colored tube. I used the tool with the small agitator attachment to vacuum the carpet in the car. It worked great. The only thing that would be better with it is if that attachment could bend at a greater angle. What sold me the most on this vacuum was that it is belt-less.

I bought this as a gift of my daughter, and she reports that if really helps with pet sheddings, and general clean up. She was very pleased.

I bought my first one in June, 2011 and just got another as an additional vacuum. I was able to attach the female end of the detachable hose from the previous brand I had to the Kenmore hose using a small piece of white plumbing pipe with tape wrapped on both ends inserted into each hose. Now I have an extra long hose and I can use the superior tools from the other model including the air bleeder nozzle. The first one is still going strong having used it about one hour every week. Why you cannot get a round furniture brush from Sears for these Kenmore uprights I do not know. You cannot get into small places with just a square brush and you definitely need an air bleeder with this powerful model for certain types of surfaces. This model is great on carpet as is but since I have these extra tools including a floor brush I use the tools for bare floors.

This has been a great vacuum cleaner. Easy to use on the stairs and easy to add the attachments

Very heavy and not very easy getting the hose on and off to use it for smaller areas. Every time I use this, it is a work out!! Love the bag but nothing else about it. Does not transfer well from floor to area rugs. A royal pain...
