Equipped with a 12 amp motor, the Bissell 16N5 Healthy Home bagless upright vacuum cleaner features an AireTight HEPA filtration system that traps and seals in 100 percent of dust mites, pollen, ragweed, mold spores and 99.9 percent of pet dander. It also offers Bissell's Microban antimicrobial protection, which works to continuously fight the growth of odor causing bacteria, mold and mildew. The multi-cyclonic system uses centrifugal force instead of filters to separate the dirt and particles, helping it stay clean longer and resulting in non-stop suction. And the permanent filter also eliminates the need to buy and replace filters, saving you time and money.

I don't understand all the fuss..
My 12 year old Bissell Upright Vacuum Cleaner bit the dust this weekend and I couldn't of been happier. As a asthma and allergy sufferer it caused more problems by spewing dust in the air every time I used it not to mention it wasn't as powerful as some of the newer items on the market today. Now I've been wanting one of these Healthy Home Vacuums for awhile now but after reading all (and I mean every one) of the reviews here and on Amazon I couldn't understand what all the fuss was about once I got it home and used it. So far I have to state what everyone else has, this vacuum cleans and cleans very well. Without spewing dust into the air. As a Asthma and Allergy sufferer those two things were very important to me. How heavy it is, if I can repair the thing myself, and how long the attachment hose is all are irrelevant and had no priority in my purchase. You will be amazed how much stuff this puppy will pull out of your carpets. I knew my old vacuum cleaner wasn't up to snuff because when I shampoo the rugs there was always junk being pulled up into the machine. Assembly is a literally a snap. 1 Phillips head screw to put the handle on the body and your done aside of attaching the attachments and hose. The power cord is nice and long. I live in a two bedroom apartment home and with my old vacuum I needed to unplug it at least once to get all the floors clean. Now I can plug it into one strategic spot and get to all the floors. Warranty has been bumped to 5 years from 2. It's baked into the price somewhere I know but hey they are trying. I don't own any pets so I can't comment on how it picks up their hair. I give this item two thumbs up but only 4 stars cause the attachment hose could be a little longer for doing the stairs. Read below on some thoughts I have on other comments I found here and on Amazon about this product. In the end however I think you'll find this to be a excellent purchase GB It's Heavy -- Whether something is heavy or not is relative to the person making the statement. I picked this vacuum up at the store and lifted it off the floor a few times and didn't find it to be overly excessive in weight. I own a Bissell Proheat 2X Carpet Cleaner and that thing is "heavy". Besides where do you think all that suction power is coming from. All the weight to any vacuum is in the motor. Once I got it home and used it I didn't find it to be any harder to move across the floor than any other vacuum I've used in my life (commerical or consumer types). Emptying the Canister makes a mess--- I suppose it could if you just held it over a rubbish bin and opened it, but then dumping anything with a lot of dirt or dust in it into a open receptecale would produce the same mess. Bissell lists two methods for emptying the container in the user manual the second being putting the canister into a plastic bag then opening/emptying it. I opted for this and it worked fine. The Belt is not a user serviceable item and if you try to fix it yourself you'll void the warranty--- The User Manual states the belt is meant to last for the lifetime of the product (spec not given) so it's not supposed to be serviceable by the consumer. I suppose one could get the service manual/parts breakdown from some place and figure out how to do it, but the new warranty is 5 Years so why not let them worry about it.

Buy a Dyson - I wish I would have!
I bought this sweeper after reading the rave reviews on this site (and disregarding the reviews that said it was too heavy, the motor went, etc.) NOW, I wish I would have paid more attention to the naysayers instead of the rave reviews. I bought my sweeper in January 2008 and had to take it in because the motor blew on Friday, May 2008 (4 MONTHS)! I NEVER had that problem with sweepers in the $100 range and I surely did not expect that from this sweeper. So, I'm without a sweeper for two weeks!!! That's INSANE as I use my sweeper daily. I bought a Dyson and decided to use this Bissell as a backup - if I ever need one considering how well the dyson is made. For all you pet people out there. I have two large dogs, hence the daily vacuuming, and I've had to routinely take apart the bissell because it would get too clogged with pet hair - my Dyson works like a dream!

Bissell Helathy Home

Best vacuum I've ever owned. I vacuumed with my old vacuum, then again with the Bissell. It is amazing how much dirt and dog hair my old vacuum was missing! The only down side is, it's a little heavy.

I would recommend this product to a friend.

This vacuum sucks - in a bad way.

For the first three months this vacuum worked beautifully.  It's heavy and loud, but I was willing to deal with that because it really got our carpets and furniture clean.  Exactly one week after the unconditional return period at the store where we purchased it had ended, the brush roller stopped working.  That's when I discovered that this vacuum has a "permanent" belt that is not accessible - you have to take it in to be serviced.  The problem with ours isn't the belt though.  It's the same problem that hundreds of others have encountered.  The brush roller just stops working suddenly or it will switch on & off while vacuuming.  It's completely random - sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.  When the brush roll doesn't work, it's like pushing around a 300 pound rock and that sucks in a bad way.

After going through the complete troubleshooting checklist, I was unable to figure out why the brush roll was giving us a problem.  Then I googled customer reviews and problems on the internet and read many, many reviews from people with the same problems.  Bissell offers a 5-year warranty on this machine, but when we took it to the authorized repair center, they told me that we had a lemon and that they'd seen the same problem many times - in fact it's very common with the Bissell 5770.  We can expect to have to take it in for "repair" every few months for the life of the machine.  I will never buy another Bissell product again.

Great while it worked.

This worked great for the first year.  Not a good fit for anyone with indoor pets. Nearest authorized warranty center was over an hour away. Not worth the money.

Impressive Cleaning

Our old vacuum finally died two weeks ago and I couldn't have been more thrilled because it didn't work very well to begin with. Because of time we weren't able to get out to pick up a new vacuum until two days ago. Initially we were looking at two models that had high reviews but both required bags, which is an extra expense we didn't want to deal with. Then we found this Bissell. It was a little more expensive than the others we were looking at, but because it is bagless we figured we would end up saving money. The reviews were great so we decided to give it a try. I can't speak to the longevity of this product but I am very impressed with its cleaning capabilities. It had been two weeks since I had vacuumed so I quickly got to work cleaning the floors as soon as we got home. Thank godness we decided on the bagless model! I probably would have gone through 4 bags at least to clean my small 1,000 sq. ft. house. I couldn't believe how much this vacuum picked up! I had to empty the large canister after each room and area rug because it picked up so much embedded dirt, dust and pet hair. It was obvious that our previous vacuum was doing a very poor job. This model works great on all surfaces including hardwood and tile floors. We had considered higher priced vacuums such as Dyson or Kirby but this vacuum which is moderately priced seems to clean just as well. Plus the attachments are very useful and easy to manage. My only concern was that the vacuum is a little heavier than what I wanted since I have a carpeted basement and stairs to deal with. But the attachments reach further than any model I have looked at and the weight was actually managable. I couldn't be more thrilled. This is the best vacuum I have ever owned!

I would recommend this product to a friend.

Awesome Vacuum

I read many excellent reviews on this vacuum and was excited on my purchase. I couldn't wait to get my new vacuum home and try it out. After just a few minutes, I had it put together. Very easy! And after only vacuuming half of my living room, I was amazed at how much dirt was already in the canister. I had to run outside and tell my husband. I had an old Oreck and it must have only been picking up some surface dirt and NO dog hair. I have a small house and emptied the canister three times. I just couldn't get over what it picked up. It was very easy to use and I even tried out the brushes the first night I had it. I got the vacuum on sale plus received a $50 gift card so I am very pleased at the price I paid for this dirt picker upper. I am certain this will help my allergies tremendously. I wanted to shout out to all my friends on Facebook how wonderful this vacuum is (or how awful my old one was). HA

I would recommend this product to a friend.

Love It!

I completely LOVE this unit. It is heavy but moves smoothly across the floor. It has wonderful suction both with the floor and hand tools. The suction does not seem to reduce at all like it has on previous units I have owned. It does NOT spit dirt with the bagless feature. The unit has been easy to clean. The longer hose allows me to get to areas that were more complicated before. It has a function to turn off the brush while on flooring and the bush stops spinning while in the upright position. It is wonderful for pet hair. The only negative I have found so far is that it IS heavy and the turbo brush does not have any angle so it lays flat while using on stairs or other areas where this feature would be needed. Would be nice if it angled. Over all, I would say that those two things should not prevent you from purchasing this unit.

I would recommend this product to a friend.

WOW...

After 10+ years of my kenmore canister vac, I knew that it probably wasn't doing the job that I thought it was doing and I would need to replace it soon. (Well that and the fact that Sears no longer carried the bags for it!) We have 2 cats, a dog and two boys = lots of hair and dirt. I started looking at uprights since we don't have any stairs and thought I would get something cheaper this time. When I started reading the reviews for the pet eraser one, I thought that was the one we needed. Then I looked a bit more and even though it was about $100 more, I figured that this one would do the job. We just got it (Sears...on sale...$25 gift card w/purchase...$5 coupon from online) and of course I had to try it out. It is heavy like the other reviews stated...don't get me wrong. I vacuumed just a 3x3 patch and was AMAZED at what it picked up AFTER I had already vacuumed with the old one 1 day ago! If this picked up that much stuff...imagine what I have been missing all of this time!!! If you don't mind the heaviness...I would say to anyone...GET IT! If you have a house with lots of animals & kids, it is worth the extra muscles it takes to push it. (Remember to not switch the height of the brush head too low or it will be near impossible to push.) It will be a good workout to use it, but who doesn't need that during the winter??? I think our house will be much healthier with this one!

I would recommend this product to a friend.
