Fantastic! January 15, 2011
I have owned at least 20 vacuum cleaners in my life, some for hardwood, some for carpet, some for sandy homes, some for pet hair. Right now, I own three, including a very expensive European model I bought because it was so lightweight. However, none of the vacuums---NONE---compare to the sucking power of this upright. What an amazing bargain! Even my husband looks forward to vacuuming the rugs with this little guy because it is so fun to see the results. Rush right out and buy one of these...you will not regret it!

A Very Different Hoover Vacuum Cleaner With Same Model Number ! February 24, 2011
The Hoover Widepath Tempo Upright Vacuum Cleaner (U5140-900) has been significantly changed, and although the model number may be identical, this formerly top-rated vacuum (by a leading consumer magazine) has been made cheaper.
The previous version of the Hoover Widepath Tempo with a headlight, purchased at Sears, was easily a 5 star machine! Unfortunately, the redesigned Hoover Tempo without a headlight is a very different vacuum.
Some examples of the negative design changes are a missing headlight, missing full bag indicator, no hose coupling dust cover, cheaper carpet brush and hose, as well as overall flimsier plastic construction.
The Hoover Model number should have been changed to reflect all of these missing or altered features.
3 stars because Hoover Tempo still gets the job done at a very affordable price and does have a relatively low weight of approximately 16 pounds.

Cons:
All around awkward to use.This is a very hard vacuum to work with. The cord is rather short and always coming loose from the cleaner and the attachments are always falling from their mounting points. It is quite heavy, and the widepath option makes it difficult to get into certain tight areas. The adjustments for different carpet heights is difficult. I can't wait to replace it.

shorter cord lengthReally like how easily this vacuum glides across the floor. Good suction. Attachments are a bit clumsy as the tubing is a bit short on the unit. The cord is also a bit shorter than vacuums I've had in the past, so might need to "re-plu" if moving around alot. But all in all a great value when we bought on Black Friday.

no longer has a headlightI have purchased two of these vacuums over the years and they are great basic vacuums at a basic vacuum price. I got both of mine on sale and they were well worth the price. They are a great option, especially if you have teenagers that might abuse a vacuum in the rare event you manage to get them to do any chores. I am writing mainly to mention something that doesn't matter to me which is that the newer model doesn't have the headlight that the older one does. If the headlight feature matters to you- be aware. If you're like me and don't like the "Bagless" feature that is being forced on us and want a good basic vacuum then this is a great option. If I was going to ask for features that realistically should only be on a more expensive vacuum I would ask for a better way to access the belts for replacement, and somewhere that I can easily purchase a replacement filter for the filter inside the bag chamber. I would have given it the full 5 stars but the headlight has been removed and there is always room for improvement.
