Excellent Value
This disposer was rated a "Best Buy" by Consumer Reports 5 years ago when I originally purchased one. The identical 5 year old unit functioned well as expected but after 5 years of medium duty use, the blades were getting sloppy loose and a replacement grinder blade assy would have been almost $50 so I just bought another new unit. Replacement of this equivalent unit took about 15 minutes using minimal tools and expertise. It is made by In-sink-erator (the equivalent unit costs about $20.00 more at Home Depot) and is an "old reliable" type design - nothing fancy. I am amazed when folks pay much more for a more attractive appliance THAT HIDES UNDER THE SINK!! If you are a practical person looking for a moderate duty unit, THIS IS IT.

Consider the stainless grind chamber
We've had this disposal for a while but it failed horribly today resulting in a giant mess of water. Thank goodness the dishwasher wasn't running. THe plastic grind chamber cracked creating a huge water fall- fortunately there hasn't been any electrical issues with the house.
If I could I'd get the stainless grind chamber.
THe 1/2 horse always seemed to be enough for us- plus with old pipes we are very careful of what we put down the disposal.

A real workhorse:Kenmore 1/2HP disposal
I'm sorry to have to say goodbye to my Kenmore 1/2 HP disposal--it's finally rusted out around the power cord after 10 years. Definitely a good product. I only wish I could have picked up one immediately at my local store instead of waiting for shipping.

Priced nicely, we actually purchased on sale but even at regular price it is very nice. Easy to install, use and works very well. Like with all disposals it does get the occassional smell but that's fixable. would highly recommend.

My third one - does the job ... very well!
I bought one of these in my old house, where I rented (where the existing one didn't work) and now my new place. It does the job and it's relatively quiet -- what more is a garbage disposal unit supposed to do? It's been around for a few years, but why mess with something that works so well?!?! Good job Sears!

Cracked after 13 months
The outside is plastic and cracked in two places, leading to a leak under my sink that was very hard to diagnose. Now I have to get some new wood under there as well as a new disposer.

Very good value for the money. This was easy to install and was surprizingly quiet during use. This product has some great reveiws that were better than other brands costing 3 times more. Very satisfied with this disposal. I highly recommend this product.
