Electrolux Cooktop Excellent Value September 14, 2008
I did months and months of research for my kitchen appliances and never found any opinions on this cooktop. I am here to tell you that it was the best investment I have ever made. This item looks great, is durable and easy to use due to the grates. There are two, but they fit together so that you can transfer and slide pans to any burner without picking the pot up (avoiding a mess for any age). It has a sleek commercial look to it and boils a small pot of water in 2 minutes. It also comes with a griddle which is outstanding for cooking steaks at different temperatures. Since the griddle fits completely over the back 2 burners (which are large and small), you can use the one side of the griddle for medium to medium well steaks and the other side to cook your steaks rare to medium rare. I have never been more happy with an appliance in my life. My last stove was an all in one unit from Frigidaire and it was a hunk of you-know-what, so I did my research. By far this is worth every penny!

The visual appearance of the cooktop is its only redeeming feature. The functionality, layout and performance are poor at best. The grates sit too far from the burners and it takes close to double the time to cook food. The front two burners can not be used for large pans because they heat up the control knobs. However, the back right burner does have the capacity to cook / heat water in a large pan (unless you have an hour to wait). That leaves you with the left back burner (the min to max) - it also has its shortcomings. Overall - do not waste your money on this product. We are very disappointed in our purchase!!

dangerousI have been using this stove top for about two months. It is dangerous. I have been burnt several times while cooking due to poor design of knobs. They are too close to gas burners when a pot is placed on them and you try to adjust the flame you get burnt from the hot knob, from hitting your fingers on the hot pan and from the flames!!! Last night the knobs got so hot they melted!! For the amount of money you spend on this band Electrolux and Sears should be ashamed to be still selling this poor design when they have know they have a safety issue! When I called sears to complain they knew all about this issue. So why is Sears and others still selling this product???

Really nice cooktop. Works well. It installed very easily and looks great. It cleans easily. We love the continuous grates. On the "black version" (the one pictured here), the knobs are plastic rather than metal. But they're still solid and feel good in your hand. The burners are astounding the right front burner is medium sized and yet it still gets hot enough that you can burn your hand if you get too close to it, even with a pan in place - so you have to watch out a bit. (That's the only reason I gave it a 4 and not a 5 star rating. In fairness, I suspect his same thing would happen on anyone else's cooktop that has large burners. But I didn't think of it before I bought it, so it stands as a "4".)
