Previously I had a junky generic recirculating hood. I added the ducts and bought this hood. I needed a range hood that was powerful enough to deal with my six foot duct run with two 90deg angles and a conversion to 6" round ducting. I also really liked the idea of infinitely adjustable fan speed. I always seemed to want a fan speed that wasn't available with my previous range hood. I'm really happy with the results. In the past my entire house would become smoky and eventually the smoke detectors would go off. Now I don't even notice anything in the air and the thing is so much quieter. The two lights work really well too brightening everything up. The infinite speed adjustment wasn't as exciting as I had hoped. It really boils down to 3 speeds. So having one of those 3 position switches might have been more convenient. This hood had the best capability to move air in the price range I was looking at. Pros: +Quiet (Low I don't even notice it when compared to all the other noise in the house, High is louder, but not as loud as my previous one.) I can now listen to the tv while cooking without blasting the volume. +2 intake vents +Easy install +Is able to deal with my longer than normal and convoluted duct run. Cons: -It is bigger than my previous range hood (height and depth)

We usually get our appliances from Sears and have been happy with them, but so far this range hood is giving us major headaches. (We chose it because it was rated as quiet and powerful for its size, plus it looks nice.)
When first installed two weeks ago the fan was weirdly loud, with an irritating rattle on the lower settings. Today a technician came and replaced the motor and fan blades under our extended warranty. The thing is now quieter, but has practically no pull. It's much weaker than the fan on the 10-year-old microhood that we replaced.
I have asthma and need to manage the air quality in my house carefully, so this is a real problem for me. I just called Sears again and they gave us another appointment in two days, so we'll see. I asked them to send someone who can measure the CFMs being moved by the fan. The repairman who came today didn't have a device to do that.
PS Everything's fine with our kitchen exhaust pipe and roof cap -- both are new and state of the art.

We installed our new blower during a kitchen remodel, and it looked and worked quietly and efficiently. After 5 years it started to drag on start up, ultimately freezing up. It is installed over a gas stove, so it handles alot of heat, which may exlain the short life of the motor bearings. We do very little frying, but quite a bit of steaming. We are considering replacing the motor, a 60 dollar part, but like most mechnical devices that may be only a short term solution. To replace the entire blower assembly is in excess of 120 dollars for the collection of parts: motor, housing, squirrel cages, et al. That makes the entire investment right up there with the more expensive hoods,so you might want to consider that option.
The range hood works great. It's so quiet. I made the right decision. It also matches my new Kenmore range. The lighting is perfect. It is identical to the Broan 883023, but far cheaper in price with the Kenmore name. Same functionality. 360 CFMs will definitely blow out the birthday candles. I upgraded my range hood from an ancient Nutone that worked, but was older than me. When I removed it for the new hood, I discovered remnants of a kitchen fire that damaged the wiring and wallboard. Unbenownst to me, I continued to use the hood for several years with the risk of having a serious electrical fire. It was disconnected. I was truly thankful nothing occurred on that magnitude. Well, it really showed me that it was time to move my appliances out of the land that made UL laboratories famous. Since I bought a new gas range, there was a need for a new hood fan. We replaced the damaged wire AND set in new wallboard. I bought the hood as an out of box item at the Sears in Mountain View and couldn't be happier. You will be too.
