Beautiful oven, well made. March 23, 2010

I have researched ovens for the last year before deciding on this model. We have a convection microwave and love the way it cooks, so we liked the idea of a full size convection oven. I have made stuffed breaded pork-chops, homemade pizza on my pizza stone, steaks and breads. Everything came out wonderful. I love to make bread and the warming drawer with a bread proofing setting is a plus. The handle on the oven and drawer seem very sturdy and solid compared to others we looked at. I like the glass touch panel, as opposed to other stoves where the 'touch' buttons actually need pressure. The glass facing makes cleaning the control panel easy. The oven seems to hold the heat well. I noticed this when I opened the door a while after we finished baking pizza, the inside was still warm. The grates are solid and heavy duty. The knobs can be pulled off and put in the dishwasher. Additionally, this makes cleaning under the knobs easy (where food crumbs like to hide)! There are a lot of options and it has been fun learning to cook all over again! The included quick start, (plastic coated) manual is very helpful. Overall, it does not have that flimsy feel other stoves/ovens do. We've tried other brands in the past and always seem to come back to Kenmore.

Oven stinks but range top is OK November 23, 2009

I purchased this range to replace a Jenn Air that I'd had for 14 years.  The range was highly rated by users and so I bought it.  After using it for the past 2 months, I can say that the glowing reviews were grossly exaggerated.

The stove top is OK... burners perform well and it's a nice perk to have a center burner for a grill rack.  Downside is there really is no easy workspace... you cannot use a spoon rest since it falls through the grates and so you have to use a plate to hold your utensils.

The oven is just awful.  The convection is poor and underperforms.  It's only useful baking two racks of food... not three and even that is a stretch since you really can't use the full width of the racks since food burns very close to the oven sides. The range was designed  with very wide heat vents on the floor of the oven... which make for super hot spots even when the convection fan is going.  Placing your food too close to the sides of the oven will guarantee burnt and uneven cakes, roasted vegetables, etc.... so you lose precious space since you are forced to centralize the food on the racks.

The oven itself has just turned off on me several times during critical cooking projects.  I left the unit alone for 10 minutes and it shut itself off and cooled down.  So now I feel like I have to babysit this stove so as to not ruin any more food.  Just awful.  Don't buy this stove!!!

Also.. the knobs do get blazingly hot when you use the stove or the oven.  Very badly designed.

    Great purchase! July 05, 2010

    Pros:
Looks impressive, great for those who love to cook
    Cons:
    Should have included broiler pan

so many times we tell everyone we know when the product we buy doesnt live up to our expectations.  This one is exactly the opposite!  I did a huge amount of research before we bought this one.  I love to cook, and I definitely wanted a gas range, my old GE profile had heating element issues so I didnt know what brand to trust, so I just made a list of my wishes and went shopping.  This model had everything I wanted and have been absolutely thrilled with it.  I was worried about the controls getting too hot when baking at the same time, and althought the stainless knobs do get warm when doing multiple functions while baking, it is nothing i was overly concerned about. If this it your fear you should look into induction cooktops.  When I bought this range (January 2010) I baked, canned, & cooked everything using every single function during the 30 day guarantee and I was completely satisfied.

Great Range, Customer Service Very, Very Poor December 04, 2009
    via Sears.com
    By Nemonian of Maumee, OH

We purchased this Kenmore Elite range and the warmer tray is not flush with the oven door.  The bottom edge is flush but the top edge is a full 1/4" further in.  It seems as if the top of the warmer tray should have stops to make everything flush.  I have spent 2 hours on the phone with Sears reps who do not know if this is a design issue or a defect.  I offered to send them a digital picture but they said that was impossible to do!  (see attached pic)  One rep told me that if a technician came out and found that I had installed the unit improperly they would charge me for the service call and the repair (I have owned the unit 7 days).

Ultimately, there was a small continuous dent in the warmer and stove door so I am having them replace both.  I don't really care about the small dents but it is the only way to get a technician out without being charged for something I didn't do.  Functionality of the unit is exceptional.

Has anyone else had this problem?
