    Kenmore Elite Gas Range, Looks great! November 09, 2010

    I have only had it a few days but so far it works great. The stove tops works wonderfully, but I have not had a lot of experience with the oven. Our old oven was an electric and I think this may take a little getting used to. The range looks great and the controls are easy to use.

    Broiler is awful February 13, 2011

    I don't know if this oven has any different element than the other Kenmore gas ovens, but I just tried the broiler yesterday, and what a shock. I was considering pulling out a candle, which I figured might get the job done faster. I think my toster oven has more heat! The electronic controls and timers are confusing, and the instruction manual to tell you how to use it is not helpful or well written. I am a computer programmer, so really didn't figure it should be hard for me to set my oven to bake a meal. I am going to check to see what time period there is for returning it, because I am just not happy with it!

    We shopped (had excellent sales service), went through the drill of phone calls to set up delivery. Delivery date and time came and went and no delivery. We looked up the phone number and called to see what happened. We ended up talking to someone in India, I believe. It was difficult to understand all of the conversation and the phone connection was weak too. Bottom line: The didn?t deliver because the range was delivered to the warehouse damaged?at 10am tht morning. That?s understandable. Why didn?t  they let us know they wouldn?t be able to deliver it that day instead of making us wait all day for the delivery that wasn?t coming? No idea. My idea? Sears has sent too many of their jobs overseas to people and places that don?t care about their (Sears?) bottom line?or about their customers. Sears is trying to cut costs, and will end up losing customers. What a way to go out of business. When it was finally delivered a week later, everything went the way it should. We have it installed and are using it.

     A side note: We were told that they wouldn?t do anything about the failure to deliver issue ? unless we called the delivery number and specifically asked them to do something. That?s kind of like finding a fly in your soup, or a cockroach in your plate at a restaurant and not being offered some kind of incentive or gratuity. We?re not the kind of people who go looking for that kind of thing and will generally turn it down if offered. But, the fact that Sears has gotten to the point that they won?t even make the offer is another indication of how far down the slippery slope they have fallen. We have been faithful customers of Sears and their appliances in particular for many years. That loyalty may be misplaced today, it seems.

    I am not much of a cook but I love are new Kenmore Range. I had a Jenn-Air that was nine years old. The mice got into the stove, so we had to get a new range fast because Christmas was the next weekend and we had to cook for everyone prime rib. The first time we used it and what I really nice range. I would recomend this range to anybody.

    I bought this range about 10 months ago.  I have been buying Kenmore appliances for the past 20 years and have always found their quality and dependability to be very good.  This range is a significant exception.  The power burner is on the back left side. The silver strip across the top of the control panel appears to be stainless steel, but is actually plastic.  While canning peppers, the strip bubbled up and cracked.  When I called for a repair as the range was still under warranty, I was asked what I hit it with.  It had not been hit, only exposed to the high heat of the power burner while I was sterilizing the jars.  The part was replaced; however, while cooking noodles on the power burner this week, the strip has again bubbled up.  It seems that this will be an ongoing problem due to poor design and/or the use of poor quality materials.  The range is not inexpensive--I expected better.
