Venting July 10, 2009
If the hood is vented up though the roof as the man from Longwood said, downdraft can occur from outside down through the vent thereby preventing the hood from removing food smells from the house. Venting to the side of the house or through an eave will prevent downdraft and should make the hood work better.

I have had this unit for about six months. As a microwave oven, it is OK, but if you were expecting the range hood to be useful, you will be greatly disappointed. The air flow is anemic and has little change of keeping cooking odors from staying in the house. Unfortunately, my wife wanted all of the kitchen appliances to match. If the microwave wasn't part of this, I would have returned it long ago. I am doubly disappointed because I had a hole cut in the roof and a vent installed for a range hood that is just too weak to be useful.
