This is a great general purpose and easy to use washing machine at a reasonable price.

We bought the Maytag Centennial top loading high efficiency model MVWC400XW through Home Depot a little over a year ago. The washer worked as expected during the first year of operation. We have now encountered issues with the start button and latch mechanism - which are critical to the operation of the unit. The on switch seems very flimsy, of poor quality and design, leading to the failure of the product - it's not working and will likely require a costly repair to replace a small, failed part. I don't recommend. As they say, "they don't make 'em like they used to"

While this is my first new washing machine in 25 years, I do not mind the lack of the agitator. However, I am not sure that the clothes are getting totally clean as there is residue (white) on some of the dark items. I am using a liquid HE detergent and as we have soft water use less than the recommended amount. I hope this doe not cotninue to happen.

My wife & I really love our new washing machine. Its so easy to use, so easy on water, & it cleans the clothes so good. We would recommend it to anyone who ask about washing machines.

I have always purchased Whirlpool appliances. And, they have never failed me. However, I recently moved to a different State, and left all my Whirlpool appliances at my old address. I was going to replace my washer and dryer anyways (I left the others for the buyers of my old house). When I started comparing prices and features, I noticed that Lowes Home Store had a sale on the Maytags. As I was desperately seeking a way to avoid another trip to the laundramat (and the sale price was about half of what I would have paid normally), I called the appliance section of Lowes and was filled in on the quality and workmanship of Maytag appliances. This was on a Saturday. To make a long story short, I purchased the Maytag pair right then over the phone. They were delivered and set up the next day (to include replacing the exhaust vent). The delivery men even took the time to explain how to load and operate both machines. I love my new wsher and dryer!. I don't have to think about "water levels". The washer does that for me. The machines are both easy to use and my electric bill did not soar when I started using them. They do a great job in cleaning my laundry and in drying it quickly and efficiently. I can load much more laundry than I could have previously and the machines still work well. I would highly recommend the Maytag machine to anyone looking to replace their laundry equipment.

I have never been so disappointed in a washer before. DO NOT BUY THIS MACHINE, you will regret it instantly. It will leave a white residue and tons of lint on all of your dark loads no matter what brand of liquid he detergent you buy or how little you put in. I only use a tablespoon of detergent and fill the wash machine half full and have to put it on an extra rinse cycle with all the clothes inside out whenever I do laundry. Also it will ruin any clothes that have zippers with it's intense spin cycle and everything comes out extremely wrinkly that not even the dryer can get them out. I now have to iron my sheets for the first time in my life. On top of all that the wash cycle takes over an hour, and that's not including the extra rinse cycle. I know someone else that bought this same model and has had the exact same problems. I only had the machine for a few months and when I called into Maytag they would not do anything, their only suggestion was to put it on an extra rinse cycle. So much for it being energy efficient. I am so disappointed that after only 8 months of owning this machine i plan on selling it on Kijiji for whatever I can get and cutting my loses & buy a new washer. Absolute horrible washer with a company that does not stand behind their products.

the washer is very loud. I like how it cleans with out a tall agitator, but I live in a loft building and all my neighbors know when I am doing wash because it is so very loud.

I am been extremely please with this washer so far. No complaints and I will never buy a front loader again. Back to the top loader!

Takes a long time to really get going. Fiddles about too much at the start.

Come on. I don't care to show off my washer/dryer. I need it to work for my family, week in and week out, without little plastic pieces breaking off. Without drama. Without down time. This washer delivers everything I need, so we have clean clothes to wear when we do all the IMPORTANT things things we want to do. Like hang out and watch movies. Go hiking. Go to the beach. Good, solid workhorse.
