I orginally found this machine in Consumers Report. Excellent review. Price was quoted at $750-$900. So it was certainly a delight and surprise to get it for $492. I checked a number of stores and websites and all were within the price quoted by Consumer Report. The machine that we replaced was a top loader that we purchased 8 years ago for $468 - what a pleasure to upgrade to such a fine machine for only $24. I recommend this machine highly! You will not be disappointed. Oh BTW deliver was fast - didn't miss a beat in my weekly laundry chore.

I bought this washer and dryer set two weeks ago in October 2009. I am having to exchange it for another brand today because the spin cycle does not work properly on anything like small bath rugs or my cat's small pet bed. Both items (spun separately) came out soaking wet. Plus, everything takes very long to wash. All clothes still damp after drying on "Normal" cycle with proper heat function, even after 50 minutes.
I'm going with Kenmore or Maytag.

We bought this washer two years ago this month. At first it did a great job and I was very happy with my purchase. Then it started making a lot of noise during the spin cycle, the noise got worse, and right before I was going to call a repairman it stopped spinning. The repairman found a screw came loose, which caused a pulley to wear into the outer tub and cause damage. He thought it should be fine after he tightened everything back up, and for two more loads of laundry it ran as good as new (quiet and smooth). Then on the third load it made noise again and stopped working again. The repairman came right back and said unfortunately the outer tub was damaged to the point it would need to be replaced, and this was so expensive it makes more sense to get a new washer. I still am in shock at only 2 years old it already wore out and had problems like this, and I was also very disappointed original warranty only covers 1 year. If you buy this washer, definitely get the extended warranty and call a repair service as soon as you can if it is making any unusual noise. I gave this washer just one star for each year it lasted for us.
looking for energy savingsI did a lot of research when shopping for my new washer. I was very concerned about the mold issue with front-end loaders and initially limited my research to top loaders without an agitator because I wanted HE and I liked having the larger capacity that comes with no agitator.
What I realized from reading reviews is that although those machines might be energy efficient, many others had the same problem I had with my prior top-loading HE machine. The reviewers said their clothes weren't clean and their clothes had holes in them. And that was exactly what my machine did before it died. My washer came with my house and I've not had clean clothes since we moved in despite the bleach, borax, vinegar and multiple washes and rinses I was resorting too. I'm a new stay-at-home mom and thought that maybe baby clothes just don't come clean. And maybe since I'm wearing my washables more often, that's why they're falling apart. Wrong - it was the washer.
So I started looking at front loaders. I went to **************** and started with their #1 rating, the Frigidaire. I never went further and haven't been disappointed.
PROS:
My clothes are clean for the first time (large and small loads, sheets, pillows...everything), I use a tablespoon of HE detergent per load, the washer is quiet (except for the spin cycle which really does sound like a plane preparing for take-off, but that's only for a few minutes) and it is SO much more gentle on my clothes. Also, the spin cycle gets my clothes so dry that my drier runs significantly less.
CONS:
I've only had it for a month, so only time will tell if it was a good purchase, but so far I'm not disappointed at all, and with the low price, I can afford to replace it in a few years if I absolutely have to. Still, I'm paranoid about the mold. I chose clean and gentle at the risk of getting mold, so I'm neurotic about drying off the door and the gasket every time I use the machine, and I keep it ajar in between uses.
Other cons are that occasionally a really small piece of laundry (like a baby sock) gets caught between the door and gasket. I just wring it out when the load is done and throw it in the next load. It's not ideal, but I can live with it. Also, if you try to open the door during a spin cycle, the door locks for a few minutes and you can't open it. This is highly frustrating to my husband, but if you can just wait until it's finished, it's fine. The monitor tells you which cycle the machine is on and how much time is left. And the detergent dispenser retains water after the load is finished. I haven't been, but I think I'll start drying that out and leave it ajar between loads as well.
budget consciousThe Frigidaire front load washer has been with us for about 6 or 7 months and we love it! This replaced a Kenmore unit that was only about 6 years old. :( We shopped around and found that Sears had the best price, so we bought it! When we bought the old one 6 years ago, we had hoped to buy a front load, since we knew they were rated more energy efficient and better clothes cleaners. But the price back then was too high to justify the cost savings in water and energy.
I'm sorry we waited so long! We really like everything about this new washer. It cleans great, has lots of options for different types of clothes and has been trouble free. It's true that water accumulates in the gasket. However, it only takes a second to dry it off and we clean the window of moisture as well to be sure. No problems! And, it does such a great job with drying the clothes on the spin cycle - our dryer works half as hard now, which is an extra energy savings for us. :)
looking for energy savingsWe brought this washer back in Sep 2009. Used it and loved it ever since. We are a family of 2. It handle our clothes well. Easy to use. Our HE detergents seem last forever. When we brought it, it was on promoption, so it is way worth the buck! Also love the delay start feature. In short, Love it! Recommend it!
