We bought this washer in June 1999. Last year we had a minor leak, the first problem ever with the washer. Now after 8 years the motor has stopped working. I was very happy with the washer. Our cloths were very clean and kept their shape! The only thing I did not like about the washer, which is partially because we have it on the second floor, is how much it vibrates. We have it in a plastic tub(because it is on the second floor), with a thick rubber grated mat to reduce vibration which only helped a little. Other than the increased vibration, no problems!

Not your parents washer July 27, 2007
You can add my machine to the list of bad bearings and broken wash tub.I took it apart myself after it started making loud noises during the spin cycle.The arms holding the washtub to the bearings almost completely rotted away,causing the tub to blow a hole in the outer housing.I guess I'm lucky mine almost lasted 6 years.Even if I repair it myself,the parts alone would cost about $365.Would not buy another one.AT LEAST THE MONEY I SAVED ON WATER USAGE WILL HELP PAY FOR A NEW MACHINE!

Purchased in summer April 03. Product features like water and energy conervation were impressive. Originally did a good job washing clothes and would spin them so dry that I was sure I had made a good buy. Then the same problems I have read about in almost all of the reviews began to happen to me too. I had repair man out twice . Once within warranty and second time it cost me $162.82 for a speed control assy. Water would not drain from tub nor would it kick into spin cycle. Then it began to sound louder and louder due to the bearings prematurely wearing. Now there are major grease stains all over my last few loads which has ruined a few hundred dollars of my clothes and towels. Although the technology and style seem great. Do not buy this machine. All of these other reviewers are correct.

Washer almost made it 5 years... September 22, 2007

My unit almost made it 5 years. Had repair come out to find out that the following items needed to be replaced: Control board, basket, gaskets, timer and vibrations shocks. I waited two weeks for all the parts to arrive then scheduled an appointment. Sears missed the appointment and did not bother to call or let me know in any way. When I called to reschedule they wanted almost another week for the reschedule. I ended up canceling the repair and bought a new unit from a local appliance store. As far as I can tell all 3.1cu ft front loaders are made by Electrolux. I saw a Frigidaire unit today that looks identical to my kenmore. I'd stay away from the 3.1 and go for a 3.5.

I purchased the new front load washer and dryer combo and paid a lot of money for the set. The washer is the worse I have evr used. It does not spin the clothes properly even using the extra spin. I have had the repair man out twice, The machine is one year old, he told me both times it is working just fine. If I can't wring water out of the towel..it is spinning good. Well, I can wring water from the washcloth and hand towels but I guess that does not count. So much for energy efficent becasue it take 90 minutes to dry the towels. I debated between Kenmore and Whirlpool and I choose Kenmore becasue of my prior purchase..never again!
