Do not buy this dryer (Unless MPA has been purchased) April 21, 2010

I purchased both the washer and dryer in May 2007.  The washer has had two lids replaced due to rust (in 12 month warranty period).  I was told bleach was to blame but I do live in the desert.  The dryer on the other hand had at least 10 service calls.  The interface board has went out on 6 occasions.  They are made by whirlpool and they have the same issues.  I bought the Master protection agreement recently and it has saved me.  The initial $240.00 ( 3 year warranty) spent may very well get my dryer replaced.  Although I initially wrote to the Better business bureau in regards to this issue I am happy with the Master Plan Agreement as it has put my mind at ease to some degree.  I am not one to purchase warranties at purchase but I will get them for washer and dryers.

I was a little worried after we read some of the reviews about the dryer...but we got it on sale for a great price. This is the nicest dryer I have ever used.  The clothing drys quickly and it is very quiet.

I purchased this dryer almost one year ago, so my warranty is about to expire. I have called for repairs three times either because the dryer wouldn't work at all, showing a code, or because it was making a loud knocking noise. Each time there was a two to three week wait for the serviceman. Each time the serviceman didn't show, and I was forced to reschedule for another week wait. I must say that after complaining about the dryer as well as the repair service on several occasions, I was finally directed to the customer resolution center, where I was told that Sears would give me credit toward a new dryer of my choice.

I bought Kenmore Elite Oasis Washer/Dryer combo in summer 2006 and have been having similar issues to many other people.  First, the washer randomly gave error codes and was repaired once under warranty.  It was working fine for a long time and Sears contacted me and replaced a circuit board for free as part of a recall, as my serial number matched a bad batch of washers.  This was nice and the washer still works fine at this time.  Recently however, the dryer started beeping constantly and giving altnernating error code on/AF, even though it still seems to dry clothes.... for now.  So, I'm about 2.5 years into ownership and anticipate I'll either soon be forking over a few hundred dollars to repair the dryer versus buying a new one from somewhere else.

In regards to Sears service, the repair person I had came came over an hour late, without giving me any phone call.  I had to take half a day off to make this appointment window and if I had known the repair person was going to be late, I would not have had to take the half day off.

Previously I've owned appliances for well over 10 years without a single service issue.  That is why I'm giving this product a BELOW AVERAGE rating in comparison to the carefree experiences I've come to expect from previous large home appliances.
