If you are looking for a comparison between a traditional dryer and the new HE dryers, or details about this particular model, then read this review further. I have never owned an HE or steam dryer before so I don't know what is normal. We have owned the electric dryer since June 08. Bought to replace a traditional dryer to handle the drying of a king size comforter (got two new cats and used a comforter to protect furniture). The dryer is working fine and we have not had any issues so far-love it mechanically. I have ran all sizes of loads. When drying the comforter, I have to shove it in (it does not turn or move at all while in there) and when it says it is done, I have to take it out, re-adjust so that all the damp areas are on the outside close to the drum. It does not remove the cat hair from anything like the traditional dryer did (traditional dryer did not fit this size comforter in it, but other items [towels, clothes, etc] it got 95% or more off). This dryer does not fill the dryer vent hardly at all with all the cat hair on it. I can see the hair still on other smaller items in smaller loads as well too, so it is not just the comforter. A nice feature of the dryer is that it senses the moisture amount of the load so it knows how long to run for. Well, I don't think this always works correctly. I have a load with a few items and one item may be a towel and the other items may be t-shirt or other lighter weight items. I do the normal setting and the t-shirts come out dry, but the towels are still slightly damp. Shouldn't the moisture sensor have sensed this? I have used the steamer to remove wrinkles. It takes about 15 minutes, it was simple to turn on and works great. I do like that I can adjust the amount of heat easily so that if I have something like a rug with a foam back or pillows I can dry it lightly for a longer time than beating it up with lots of heat. I like the vent filter being full signal, but I must say, it does not fill up fast like my previous traditional dryer. Not great if you have allergies. I know I can set machine to a More Dry setting, but I don't want to over heat some clothes so I would rather stop and restart when necessary. If you get the steam, make sure you make room for the connection in the back for the water line needed. With traditional styles the plumbing may not set in wall and adding this and if on pedastals, the machine will need to be farther from wall since higher, so causes more room from wall to be required. This is a very good one for us if you have to have a HE dryer. But if you have a pet hair issue, not good for that. Traditional is better.

Got this machine 2 months ago & I am glad that I kept my old one. We've had to remove it from the top of my HE4 washer so many times that I've given up on stacking them. This unit dries clothes fine, but about once per week it fails to power on. The drum light works, but the display & controls simply won't power. I open a service call, schedule time off work ...and a few days later, it starts working again. Major waste of time. Also glad I purchased the extended warranty - this one will need it for sure! So far, I've had five times where it stopped working & every time I can plug my old dryer in & she works fine. The technician said they run into this issue fairly often & they don't know why 'this board' keeps failing. One thing I can say for sure though - Sears stands behind their products 100% & they'll bend over backward to make it good (as long as it's under warranty). SEARS, PLEASE make a good-old solid state version of this & everyone will be happy. Buyers, Invest in the extended warranty. Also, think carefully before purchasing this dryer unless you're independently wealthy & can take countless days off work waiting for a tech to show up in his service window of 8a-5p. It's beautiful enough to be a modern art masterpiece & about as expensive.
Got this Dryer with the Washer about a month ago. Been happy with both. The steam option for me took a few times until it worked. I was not happy the first week with the dryer. It left clothes a little wet and the steam didn't work. I then got my leveler out and readjusted the dryer. Next load came out perfect. Then the steam option got the wrinkles out and the clothes got a fresh scent. Not sure if the wetness and the steam not working was just some early use gremlins or if it was the leveling. (I was only off by a hair to begin with) Now it works perfectly and I am really impressed. I also have a dog and it really gets the hair out of my clothes. Read a review that said this was not good for pet hair. They are wrong or overstuffing their dryer. I had a good dryer before which was good for the pet hair. This is much better. The old one wasn't even in this dryers ballpark. Just read the manuals and make sure to follow set up instructions. You should love this dryer.
I picked up up the HE5 steam electric dryer the day after Easter. It has been outstanding so far. I'm not using the steam option, so can say how that works. The best part of the whole deal was I bought it at a Sears outlet store. While checking on line for the models at the local outlet they had a HE3 dryer for 419.00. I was at the store as they open at 9:00. The salesman took my printout of the dryer I wanted but,it was sold. Then the manager asked what I looking for. I showed him the printout of the HE3 dryer. After a few minutes of looking he offered the HE5 dryer for the same price as the HE3 dryer at $419.93.Plus the printout I had, also had a $20.00 coupon.
The washer is so quiet that I could easily forget that I am washing. I was really amazed at how quiet it is. The clothes came out very clean and smelling wonderful. It looks like it hardly uses any water at all which saves me money. I put a load of clothing that I knew had stains from my 4 year old's painting class in the washer without pretreating. I used the steam option and the items came out "sparkling clean" as my little boy would say. I expected the washer to shake during the spin cycle but there was hardly any motion at all. I even have the washer and dryer stacked and in a pier and beam home. The dryer was quiet and very efficient. I love the way it senses that the load is still damp and continues to dry until the clothes are dry. I would recommend this combo to everyone.
I purcased this dryer so i could wash all large bedding items at home. My husband connected the dryer according to the directions. The first time I went to use it, it didn't work. I called for service and the repair man came the next day and repaired the door latch. In the next couple of days i ran 3 more loads of laundry. Again the machine does not work. I have had to line dry most of my laundry since purchasing this machine. What an inconvenience with 2 small children.
