X-Cargo  Xtreme Car Top Carrier

I wanted a ski/cargo carrier for a ski trip with 2 other guys. I found one of these used, that had scratches and some mounting cracks for $50! I put the mounting plated on TOP and inside of the carrier. It makes sense to reinforce it from the inside! With the wingnuts hand tight it should not wobble, vibrate or crack. I used a good quality black sealant on the cracks. It does get a little water in it driving through a long heavy rain but I cut a mat and put it in the bottom. It worked great on my trip and even fits my 6'1" surfboard! I'd buy one new, I think it is worth the money.

Excellent. The volume doubles the cargo space that is behind the back seat of a Grand Caravan / Town & Country mini-van, and the fuel cost was about 1.5 miles per gallon. You must have a factory roof rack to mount this carrier to the cross bars. The interlocking lid lock is great. No rain leakage. I used it on four trips from Washington DC to Kennedy Space Center last year. As you may know, traffic runs mostly at 10 MPH over the 'recommended' numbers on that interstate, and there was no noticeable wind noise.

I bought this on sale online at a super price $242 and couldn't be happier! Picked it up at the local store and saved the $90 shipping cost and had it installed on my new 2013 Escapes existing vehicle rack within 1/2 hour for only $15. Looks Unbelievable and performs Awesome! Very little wind noise, aerodynamic and water tight! Drove 4 hours in a driving rain sleet storm with winds up to 40 mph and hardly a drop inside and no carrier movement. Locks solid and opens wide from the side. Exceeded my expectations. You won't get a better rack paying a couple hundred more. One tip for all carrier owners buy a moving blanket to drap inside. Great for protecting and eliminating shifting of skies or any other sporting equipment. And No I do not work or own Sears stock it's just a Super product! Buy one you won't be disappointed!

After initial assembly it is super easy to take on and off. Be sure to balance the load. Hold my camp chairs. does not affect the drive or gas mileage on my Honda Odyssey.

I've used this carrier on my '05 Chev Malibu for well over a year constantly. I attached it to my Yakima rack. I never took it off, I moved and had it stuffed with stuff. It hasn't leaked; doesn't seem to effect my gas milegage and is solid while driving. Great carrier and a lot less cost than the other brands.

wobbles, rattles, cracked at site of the bolts in probably four trips. . very very unsafe on the highway.staff not helpful rude& condescending blaming us for the damage.  supervisor  also sides with employees without talking to customers

Bought this for big family vacation and had Sears install on my grand caravan.  Worked ok on first trip.  On second trip, after we had emptied it, started vibrating like crazy on the interstate.  Scared me to death.  My husband got out and tightened all the clamps as best he could, but still had problems when wind was blowing a certain direction.  Have tried again full, thinking it was the fact that it was empty, but it still  vibrates excessively at higher speed (>55 mph) and at lower speeds under certain wind conditions.  It now sits in my garage as it is out of warranty and I refuse to use it...would rather travel for 10 hours with luggage on my lap than worry about that thing ripping the top off the van.  It was that bad!!

Bought this from Sears because I had already used REI dividend to buy tent.  I would have splurged on a Yakima or Thule.  Got a good deal on this.  Have used it a couple of years stradled on top of a Chrysler Town & Country.  Securing it to the roof rails is a challenge for the interior brackets - hinge side.  If there are tips/tricks to doing this - I am unaware.  Usually takes about 20 minutes to bolt on - in decent weather.  Okay storage for camping, ski trips, etc. for a family of five.  Apparently, this is made by Thule buy haven't confirmed.  If you can get it for around $250 - I would pull the trigger. 

Because we travel with a dog, we decided to attach a cargo carrier to the top of the 4-Runner. At the time of the purchase four years ago, we paid the additional $40.00 to Sears Automotive to install an X-Cargo onto the roof. It was well worth the $40.00. Since then, we have down-sized and purchased a RAV-4. Unfortunately, the carrier extended over the roof and windshield, making it less efficient driving in wind, and overall aerodynamics, and reduced gas mileage. We also installed it ourselves onto the new RAV4, and probably didn't do the good job that Sears had done on the 4-Runner. Moreover, we dented the roof of the new car slightly as we lifted the carrier onto the roof. Needless to say, due to the positioning of the carrier, age, and improper installation, the X-Cargo cracked and oscillated on an out of state trip. We stopped, unloaded the contents into the backof the vehicle, put the dog between the kids and left the carrier at a Nissan dealership. We miss the X-Cargo, but will see what carrier products Sears has to meet the fit of the current auto we own.

We went through a lot of trouble to get this particular cargo carrier and when we finally got it the corner was cracked. We exchanged it for the less expensive model (rear loading) and it has been great! Glad we saved ourselves $100.
