After looking at both 12 volt units that plug into the cigarette lighter or clamp onto the battery posts of your car, and then the 120 volt units you plug into your 120 AC outlet on the garage wall, I settled on this unit from Sears. The 12 volt units are too slow, and when using the car's 12 volt cigarette lighter to power those units, too many stories of blown fuses in the car. I just brought this 120 volt unit home, as I had two completely deflated tires on my John Deere snow thrower. Hooked the unit up at the speed of light, and the tires were inflated right to the pressure that Deere stated not to exceed. The gauge built into the compressor told me exactly when to turn it off. Worked like a charm, and very fast. Unlike another reviewer of this item, I found the coiling back up of both the air hose and the power cord to be very easy. It was not rocket science, as the slogan goes. I would recommend this unit to anyone who does not have a large industrial compressor in their garage and needs to occasionally inflate snow thrower, riding lawn tractor, boat trailer, or utility trailer tires. Also top off your car and truck tires when they get low.

I have used it mostly for bike tires for about a year. Yesterday it started to rattle when unplugged. Opened bottom and found the bolts holding the compressor to the motor had started to loosen, and 2 had fallen out. No Locktite or lock washers had been used by Sears - an obvious oversight on bolts that vibrate. And the poor internal design meant almost complete disassembly in order to get the bolts back in! But opening the case also revealed that one of the switch wires was rubbing on the motor armeture and could have eventually caused a short, so I guess it was a good thing I opened it and repaired the out-of-warrantgy unit myself! Locktite and lock washers on the bolts, heat shrink over the worn insulation, and zip tied the wire out of harms way. The internal parts seemed fairly robust, just poorly assembled. I imagine that when all 4 bolts fall out, that is the cause of the coupling failure on these units, as the motor housing would seperate from the compressor assembly. Too bad - only minor part changes and improved assembly quality would make this a pretty decent unit

See all reviews for this productI bought this from a yard sale about 8 years ago for about 5 bucks. im amazed. great sears quality. works well and doesnt over heat like previous review said. what a great product craftsman. Thanks!
Pumps car tires and mountain bike tires fast. However, cannot get above 95 psi, even though it claims 120 psi working pressure. No good for inflating high-pressure road bike tires.
looking for durabilityI bought this air compressor because of the Craftsman brand, only to find out that this product is sold under various other brand names. A generic compressor made by one company (in china) and sold under various brand names. This compressor lasted a couple years before it overheated and stopped working. Poor quality. I've lost my respect for the Craftsman reputation. Most, if not all of Sears' Craftsman line are not made in the USA and are of poor quality. Bottom line $
looking for durabilityI've had this compressor for 3, possibly 4 or 5 years. Up until yesterday, it worked. Then it audibly slowed down, would only provide 60 psi, and there was a strong smell of overheat.
I took it to Sears Blossom Hill store where I bought it. They have no record of me. And I don't have a receipt --- after 3 to 5 years?
So here's my advice. KEEP YOUR RECEIPT because it's going to break and Sears' policy, is no receipt, tough luck. And BE SURE TO READ WHAT THEY PUT IN THEIR COMPUTER.
I'm screwed out of $64 (plus CA tax).
