Craftsman stays true to their history of quality September 10, 2010
I bought this inflator for my husband for father's day. We previously had a manual inflator and let's just say, inflating a bicycle tire was so daunting that by the time he blew the tire up, he wanted nothing to do with going on a bike ride. Now, we can check our tires, blow them up and be on the road with our daughter enjoying the day in no time. So needless to say, mission complete!
I also purchased this instead of just a basic inflator because of its promise to perform highly on full size vehicle tires as well. Since my husband and I are both military, it's safe to say that we travel more than most families. Now that we have a toddler, we think about safety in ways we never really did for the two of us. To know that we can drive up the east coast without worrying about getting stranded due to a flat tire is so relieving. I can't say that we have had to use it for that purpose yet (thankfully) however, I have been so impressed by the everyday use that I have no doubt that it will be just fine.

I went against all the reviews and bought one of these things. Yup, everyone was right. In less than 5 minutes I tried it out, boxed it back up, and have it ready to return. What I call the air chuck (part that clamps down on valve stem) gets stuck on the valve stem. I nearly pulled the valve stem out of my wheel to take it off. The other problem is internal. The minute you turn it off, you'll hear a hissing sound. That's the sound of the air from your tire leaking out of the pump itself. I take it either the pump doesn't have a one-way valve, or it's just defective. Don't waste your time (and gas) buying this.

Good, but ...stem valve problem November 27, 2011

Cons:
too narrow for valves stemIt's great to have something like this to inflate tires, balls, etc. But, as others have noted, the stem valve doesn't fit smoothly on a tire valve so it will often vibrate off when it's running. Early on it was just slightly a hassle but now it has gotten so bad I can't even get it onto the valve stem. When I called under the warranty, as directed on the website, they said I have to take it to a store which was also disappointing. While I was initially adequately happy with this item, I'm losing faith in it and Sears./Craftsman. I wouldn't recommend this based on my experience.
Also, pressure gauge doesn't seem to correspond to tire pressure.

The GOOD news: This modfel is definitely faster than any other home use inflator I've ever used. I'd estimate that the time to add 5 pounds in a tire is about 30 seconds. It used to take a few minutes with my old inflator.
I read the other reviews about the chuck sticking on the valve stems, but did not have any problem attaching, locking, or removing the chuck. It was easy on and easy off. Maybe they've improved the design.
The BAD news: As mentioned in other reviews, the vibration is above average and the little suction cup feet don't do anything to help. The vibratiojn is bad enough that the tire pressure gauge is unreadable. Sure, you shouldn't rely on the built-in tire pressure gauge exclusively, but knowing whether you're somewhere near the pressure you want would be pretty convenient. As it is, you have to guess when to stop putting in air, check with your "real" pressure gauge, and then continue to fill the tire. (SIGH). This partially replaces the faster inflation time with more time required to check inflation progress.

This was supposed to be the replacement that would do the trick. Despite the high price and the large size, I bought it because it had everything I needed. The hose is long enough. So is the power cord. The operation was surprisingly quiet. Everything about it was great, except for the most crucial thing. The hose connector did not fit over the valve! I had to force it down with all of my might and it still did not fit properly. Then I had to wrestle it off of the stem. I took it back and bought another product at another store, at half the price, smaller, easier to operate and works just fine.
