Great at first...
MN winters are long, cold and dry. I live in a 1950 brick building with updated forced air but no humidity feature. My condo is single level, 1100 sq ft - easy to humidify. Purchased last March I used the unit for 6 weeks, cleaned it and put it away. I took it out in Oct this year. Initially, I could run it on low and maintain 35% level. In December, it wasn't reaching 25% so I replaced the filter.
Side note: it has never given me the "check filter" warning, even when my filter was dried out/discolored. I have hard, unfiltered city water and use the Sears Bacteriostat a few times per week, filling the unit twice/day.
After two weeks the replacement filter was only 1/3 wet, and discolored so i replaced it again. It seems to be working better now. I love the machine - when it works. It is quiet, efficient, easy to fill from my kitchen faucet, and easy to clean in my bath tub (I wipe it out with a sponge maybe once/month). If the unit/new filter don't return to normal, I'll take it back to Sears for repair. The instruction manual notes a Sears one-year warranty and they will repair for free. This may seem tedious, but as I mentioned...MN winters are long, cold and dry!

Very disappointed with the quality construction and design
I have had 3 humidifiers prior to this one from Kenmore and have been super happy with them. Almost cried when the last one died out out wear. This new 12gallons is deceiving, it's the output not volume capacity to hold water. The construction is very poor, the plastic wellds for the water tank are very rough, not even and the tank is kind of cocked. The water tank fill up is on the side and makes it almost impossible to fill up unless you fill it in your tub or have a big bathroom sink. As the water level goes down and the resevoir tank releases water, it sounds like a toilet being flushed and will wake you up in the middle of the night 5-6 times depending on fan velocity. I could careless about the inaccurate humidity digital reader, but I do care that the fan speed 2 died after 2 weeks. I am not returning it, because I threw out the box and I'm not carrying this mini R2D2 back to the store. I am upset and disappointed with the construction quality and very poor design. I am a big fan of Kenmore appliances, but this one takes the cake for the worst appliance I have ever bought from Sears.

Stopped working within 2 months
Item worked great for about a month. Changed filter when indicated. Would work for a little while then would stop cycling water, just continuously run. Now it does not cycle water at all and does not show any errors, just continues to run without cycling any water. Unable to find any help online or in manual. Very frustrated!!!!

Breathe easy
My house is 2 fl approx. 2050 sq ft. and I own 2 of these (one upstairs & one downstairs) 12 Gallon humidifier along with 2 smaller units that I keep in each of the kids rooms because I keep the doors shut during the night. I use the whisper setting and keep it at 40% humidity and we breathe well all winter long. No shocking occurs ever, no static, pets are happy, family is happy especially when you have a cold. Filters are costly but I haven't found a filtered humidifier where the filters aren't pricey. I run the units from Nov-Feb/Mar and change the filters about every 1 1/2 months. If you let the water dry up, the filters seem to need changing more often. We keep it going, filling daily. I think it's a great machine and my mom bought one because we had such great success with ours.

My only complaint is I have had this unit for several heating seasons, but the price of the filter is quite costly and we use at least 2 per season. Wish they could come out with a less costly filter or one that would last at least all winter.

Disappointed
We filled it but it did not work properly Would not change speeds or put out water. the TWO gallons it held were still in containers after 24 hrs. We believe this product was rebuilt but still not working properly. Sadly we returned our very first purchase --ever--on your site. Very disappointed. I gave you a one for Rob who help me with my order .I would really give HIM a five, He was very professional and kind.

No Stars! Out of the box I thought "Is this it??" Poor construction. Came apart as I removed the box. Once plugged in fan squeaked, would not calibrate and control panel did not function. Going right back.

This unit works very good . It is a pretty loud when Automation setting for the fan when it starts up. Have changed to the manual speed setting of 3 and it still does the job well without the noise. thank You

Perfect for our apartment; strong handle on refill tank
We have a 2-bedroom apartment, and this unit humidifies the entire apartment perfectly. The tank is very easy to refill, and the tank handle is especially strong, which I appreciate. As others have said, the humidity gauge reads high---in our case, 44% is actually 30%. All humidifiers we've owned have read high, so we simply roll with it. The unit works best for us at the Automatic setting, which results in quiet use and stable humidity.

Inaccurate hygrometer reading
The humidity display is way off other hygrometers in the room. So, setting a humidity level you desire is a trial and error process which make the display meaningless. It does humidify the room adequately.
