Sun-like radiant warmth in small drafty areas November 20, 2010
In southwest Texas, the evening temps can dip down into the 30s. This space heater heats up incredibly fast and keeps warmth concentrated in the area where I want it: my drafty bedroom or my drafty living room. I found the benefits described on the box are true: this heater provides strong directional heat and works very well in drafty rooms. The heat is described to be "targeted and sun-like" and my experience has found that to be true.
I also like its light weight, which make it easy to move from room to room. And, like another reviewer stated, I appreciate its tip-over and auto shut-off safety features because I also have several cats. The cats have grown to like the heater and often position themselves in good spots to warm up and sleep. I purchased the Sears $9.00 2-year purchase protection plan because the plan covers failure of the product for any reason.

Unstable, Prone to Tipping, Decent Heat Output December 23, 2010
I used the unit for one day, then decided to return it to my local Sears. While attractive, the unit is prone to tipping over, front to back or back to front. The entire outer shell is made of plastic and the unit is too light-weight as a result. The unit does output directional heat well enough, and the thermostat is located on the cord; which does help the unit from cycling on and off prematurely from the housing temperature. On a trust level due to the instability of the unit, I wouldn't feel comfortable using it regularly. Instead I opted for the Optimus H-5300 Quartz and Convection Radiant Heater, which is substantially more stable; and has 4 wattage selections (375/750/1125/1500) instead of two, like this unit. Overall, there may be good safety mechanisms built in; such as the knock over sensor, but I would rather the unit be stable to begin with.

Too noisy for meI love the heat this heater puts out. Unfortunately, the ongoing fan is too noisy for me, so I returned the heater. My living room is big, with a high ceiling, & this heater would have been perfect, if it hadn't been too noisy. The warm-up noise was not the problem; the fan noise was. After checking through all the other reviews, I am the only one who was bothered by the fan noise, so if you're not particularly sensitive to noise, you would love this heater. By the way, it did not seem unstable to me, but I didn't test that.

noneOur electric heater died at toward the end of the winter. We use it in the basement when we are working there. It took some searching to find a similiar replacement and were glad that Sears still had some available. It works well and we are very happy with it.
