Kenmore  Replacement True HEPA Filter, Large Chassis

My Sear Air Filter works great. I've been depending upon it for more than 20 years!

This HEPA filter is made of durable materials that will outlast the manufacturer's recommended usage and still provide exceptional air filtering. I strongly recommend products that carry this filter unit.

I have had the air purifier that fits the 83376 HEPA and 83378 pre-filter for almost ten years. I have always been able to go to Sears and get replacements, and was happy to see that Kenmore kept making newer versions of the air filter machine that fit the same size parts....until today. You will see that Kenmore no longer makes ANY air purifier units. They offer a couple Whirlpool models that are totally different. That's it. No more Kenmore air purifiers. They have a few humidifiers they still have in stores and on the web, but that's it. Too bad, because I was going to buy the new version of the exact same unit today. One more lost customer for Sears. I hope we can still get filters the next time we all need them.

Fits fine in my 10 year old kenmore air cleaner, seems to work well. Wish they were cheaper, though and  they never seem to go on sale.

I agree with most of the other posts here.  You can get a cheaper aftermarket filter, but as that person said, those filters are cheaper in both quality and price.  I haven't tried vacuuming the hepa filter when changing the pre-filter, but I will try that this time around.

Also, while SearsPartsDirect does have the same filters, if you can find it on Sears.com, you will usually be able to get either cheaper shipping or free shipping if a deal is running.

Check out FiltersUSA.com, FiltersFast.com or NationalAllergy.com for OEM as well as lesser cost aftermarket replacement filters. I've tried both, the aftermarket has a frame made of cardboard instead of plastic so its not as tight a fit, but at half the cost you decide. Not really sure if there is a performance loss in going with the after market replacement. I continue to buy the Whirlpool OEM filters (1183051K) as long as there available and under $80 / filter.

I think it is way too costly.

We have had this system for six years now and replace the HEPA about every 18 months. Vacuum it off with each pre-filter change and extend the life. Tried another system and did about half as good as this one for almost the same cost!

No worries.  If you are looking for replacement filters, enter your unit's model number in the PartsDirect website.  The stores don't carry the older units' parts any longer so you won't be able to order them here.  But PartsDirect has all the replacement parts.

I have had my kenmore air filter for years. I needed to replace the filter but they are on backorder ..forever. Someone, somewhere said you can make your own. I tried it- it WORKS. Go out and get a 16x20 furnace HEPA air filter rated for allergens, get the best one you can find. Take out the old filter and line it up with the 16x20. The new filter is less than 1/2 inch larger just at the top. Mark it with a marker. Now,peel back the cardboard of the new air filter carefully! Dont pull it off you need to keep it intact. Bend the wire mesh 1/2 inch down. Cut the HEPA material where the marker line is. FOLD the cardboard back up over the top and seal with masking tape if needed. Fit new filter SNUGGLY into air filter (note arrow of air flow). If filter is not snug it wil not work. Seal any gaps with masking tape, if you are careful you shouldn't need to do this. 100$ filter now cost you 20$. Replace as per new filter directions do not rely on machine as it is set for kenmore filters.
