Amazing unit removes chlorine taste & odor, as well as sediment.

This unit does an amazing job removing the chlorine taste & odor, as well as sediment from the whole homes water supply.

It seems another city is in the news every day with people complaining about unpleasant chlorine smells & tastes.  This is an article from a city near me: http://www.burnsville.org/index.aspx?NID=917

This unit's installation is similar to that of a water softener.

If you are budget minded, this unit will save you money in refrigeration water filters, bottled water, cleaning supplies.

We are very happy with the resulting water quality.

We like the little extras in the design:  Energy Star rated power adapter, reassuring light on unit showing us that it is doing its job.

WOW! How can it be?

To those of you who know nothing of water filtration or the widely varying techniques used to filter it. Fist note at the bottom of the description it says the filtration is cosmetic. This means it removes setiment, it obviously has carbon in it since people are having issues with carbon permeation. It would be great if Sears actually told you in the video the mechanisms used in the filtration process, Also don't be fooled by the reviewer who states that Reverse Osmosis wastes 2 gallons of water for each gallon of useable water. This simply isn't true with the newer models and definitely not true with other types of filtration. Not to mention this system back flushes, which means it also wastes water. Second an RO unit removes setiment, salt, chlorine, lead and many many other unwanted contaminates this unit DOES'T. Most likely this unit is using Coconut husk coated with carbon which is why it continues to leach carbon into the water and why people are reporting their water still tastes bad. Carbon is used to absorb chemicals from the water, it doesn't however remove any elements (lead, mercury, copper, vandium and the like) and back flushing only washes out the setiment, it does absolutley nothing for the carbon as the carbon will not release any chemicals from simply being rinsed it will only absorb more chemicals during the rinse which is why it's used to absorb the chemicals in the first place. I hope this helps anyone considering purchasing this unit.

Lifesaver

Back in 1993 we purchased this house and never knew that a very bad sulfar smell existed. Supposedly the well got hit by lightening and they could not test the water. So we landed a house with problems. We went through one of those smaller filter systems and started with 1 filter every 3 months, then it came down to 1 per month for odor and taste and they were now running $38 a filter, plus tax. This system pays for itself in 10 months at regular price of $349 and on sale yesterday at $199.99 - 6 months, thus saving us thousands over the life of the unit. With such a problem we are happy when it lasts 6 to 7 years even though 10 is what is advertised. This is definitely a lifesaver and if it works for us on odor and taste with a very bad sulfar smell, then I think it could work for almost anyone. I grabbed two to have a spare on hand and I'm good to go for 12, 14, 20 years!

I would recommend this product to a friend.

pleased and surprised

my well water started smelling bad after i chlorinated it.replaced pressure tank and drained hot water tank with no results.water had a burned rubber type smell. i tried this whole house filter and it solved the smell and the taste. my outside spigots are not filtered and they still smell.that proves this filter is working. we even turned off our water conditioner with no loss of good soft water. this filter is great, have had it about 6 weeks.

Love It

First, about the person that wrote, "WOW! How can this be?" You expected more than what the system says its suppose to do. It WILL NOT take toxic mud and make it drinkable, that is not the intention of the design. I've personally installed several of these in friends homes inc. my own and it has made remarkable improvements over the existing water. I'm not claiming the system will make it 100% perfect, but more usable. I have seen it make water that was cloudy and sour to the taste, clear and more drinking. And I'm **** about my water. In closing, if you want perfect water, move to the top of the mountains in the northern hemisphere where the water in naturally cleansed and insatiably delicious. I.M.O., if you (any gen. cons.) want to improve your water by any measure, this system can def. help. Again, it's not designed to perfectly eliminate every foul aspect of bad water, but it does HELP, which is what this system is for. If you need better, extend the system.

I would recommend this product to a friend.

Kenmore/Whirlpool/Ecodyne unit kicks ***

If you properly set your backflush timing and have the proper pressure coming into your unit, you'll get more mileage out of your soap, longer-lasting water filters on your refrigerator, cleaner dishes and less build-up on your appliances. I have had this unit for four years, never a problem. In fact, I plumbed in my backflush to go to my rose garden and Korean grass yard and set the recycle period to 10 days and shut off my irrigation in fall and winter months while getting extra clean water in the house. I drink from the faucet a lot nowadays. I used to be a hardcore reverse osmosis person but do not like the wasted water (1:1 ratio of waste to useable). The filter backflush puts my water use at a greater than a 60:1 ratio. While I believe some units may go out bad, I cannot believe that problems are "just their fault." If you have a heavily contaminated source (like construction in your area, where the water line gets dirt in it), a pre-filter with a removable media may help.

Execelent Product

After 35 years of putting up with silt and manganese plugging the pipes and filters used to try and stop it I ran into this, works like a champ, has a high flow valve and uses charcoal-gravel-sand as a filter media, traps particles down to 25 microns completely automatic and takes up little space, now if you figure the cost of the large 4 1/2" X 20" filter cartridges and the housing and the fact you have a never ending cost and hassle to replace it makes this thing a super bargain !! this is made by ecopure BUT sears has put a better high flow valve that actually counts the water flow and flushes it self after whatever you set it for, it also is free standing and contained in a outer housing which I added a overflow drain like the softener as a safety for my laminate floor, my only gripe is sears don't put any info out there to see how good this thing really is, owner manual would be helpful for those who want to study it before buying, you can get the ecopure manual which is the same except for the valve, this filter is well thought out and designed and uses sears proven softener valve design and I couldn't be more pleased with it--not to mention no more dropping water pressure from plugged water filter cartridges as well as the constant hassle of changing them !! A+++++ HIGHLY recommend this product-would have bought it years ago if I would have had more info--

I would recommend this product to a friend.

This whole house filter isn't any better than without one !!

This water filter is only for chlorine removal, nothing else. My water taste like a musty taste to it. I  have called into Sears to complain about this , and to no avail there is nothing different in the taste,It seems the only thing I am going to do is ,put it on BY-PASS to see if there is a different raste !!
