Kenmore 50 pint Dehumidifier works great! March 10, 2010

We purchased this dehumidifier last summer for our basement that always had a musty odor, especially when it was rainy or humid outside. We used the nice long hose that was included with it to set it up so that it reaches the drain in the utility closet. That way we didn't have to mess with emptying the bucket or cleaning out the unit.

It worked GREAT to bring the humidity down and get rid of the funky, musty smell. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because it is QUITE noisy. Our TV/Entertainment room is in the basement, and it was impossible to watch TV with the dehumidifier running. Because of the noise, I LOVE the electronic controls that let you set the humidity desired, and/or set it to run at different intervals. We would just set it to the humidity level we wanted it to be and then turn it on when we went upstairs for bed in the evenings. The first couple of days it ran almost constantly, but after a couple of days, the humidity was finally at a manageable level and it only ran as needed, for shorter periods of time.

I also like that it has a 5 year warranty, so we should be able to at least get our money's worth out of it!

    Dissatisfied with product ! May 11, 2011

We bought this unit in August of 2008, it is less than 3 years old and doesn't work anymore. It runs, but doesn't put any water in the bucket. The same thing happened with our last Kenmore Dehumidifier. For $200, these products should last longer. Not buying a Kenmore anymore!

Worked well for 18 months then ran continuously without taking any water out of the air. Piece of junk, waste of $200. Never again...

After having a leak in our basement I needed to get a dehumidifier. After reading reviews we still bought this one. Yes it is a little noisey but nothing that you can't get used to. It's easy to use, works well, an energy star and has variable settings.

Kenmore 50 pint dehumidifier is very poor quality. August 19, 2010

    Cons:
    Will stop working,Dependability POOR!,Sears/Kenmore should be embarrassed,Only lasts a few years.,short life expectancy,Absolute junk

If your looking for a good dehumidifier this is not it.  It's very noisy and the fan stopped working within 24 months.  Unit cost me $250.  I have just ordered a capacitor from Sears Parts at a total cost of $30 (incl shipping). Capacitors shouldn't be that expensive.  It's either buy a capacitor and replace it (hoping this is the problem) or buy a new unit or take it in and have it fixed for probably >$150.  All choices cost time and money.  Save your time and money and buy a good one to begin with.  By the way, when I got inside the unit, some of the parts were labelled "LG".  If Sears has these things made by LG they should consider changing manufacturers!
