The Kenmore single room air conditioners are great! April 11, 2011
I bought a similar model a few years ago and it is great. I can run it in my bedroom consistantly in the hot days of the summer and it barely changes our power bill at all. The one that I purchased also had a remote control which is a great feature if you get cold in the night. As always Kenmore makes resilient products for wonderful prices.

I had this same model about 6 years back, it worked for 5-6 years, and is the 1st air conditioner to last me over a year. When the unit's fan motor went out. I made up my mind to buy the same model, i got my new one on 01/26/10, when unboxing the first thing i noticed, was the once metal parts and brackets are now plastic. Witch is no big deal, most things today are made of more and more plastic, i installed the unit in my window. It is now 03/10/10, and i have only used the unit 4 to 5 times, with no longer then 8hour runs or less each time. And the fan motor died! that's less then 3 mouths of use. i plan on taking it back later today to get a full refund, and just buy a cheap ******** model.
p.s. to fix the noisy front grid, place a peace of tape on each side of the grid as to hold it to the unit.

affordable,quickly cools,Easy to Use,quiet,VERY affordable,Great for temporary needThis air conditioner fit perfect in my kids room, As a Mother of four kids, I like to take care of them and give them the best quality of life I can, Summer is comming soon and the high temperatures also, this air conditioner cool my kids room in seconds and i can see always the temperature on display in my kids room. I would recommend this unit toeverybody, some of family members are really interested too in buy this unit for next summer, the silence feature is amazing my kids also take naps in completly relax, and come on!.....only 5000 BTU i have no worries about my electrical bill, i will change my old air conditioner too for one of this....it is exellent......0hhhhhh under $ 100 the best.

A little rattling from the plastic partsOur main A/C went out in the house and we needed something fast but not too expensive. It was towards the end of the summer and other Home improvement stores were only selling the combo units of heating and air. This model was easy to install (this being our first we were very surprised). It cooled off the main bedroom and then we used fans in a relay form down the hallway to cool off the rest of the house. Surprisingly it did work to make the rest of the house bearable without taking away much of the coolness from the main bedroom it was in.
I watched several videos on how to install a window air unit and took several ideas from each of them. There was too much light coming in from the plastic/vinyl side panels so we went to Ace and found some foil tape and reflective foil insulation. It helps keep the cold air in and the heat out. We were told in winter it would also be good to help keep the room warmer so we figured it was a win win situation. It may not look the prettiest but we were not going for fancy.
We live in TN and August is the worst month and my husband and I hate to be hot. Do not expect it to be as quiet as a mouse, it will have some noise but nothing a person can't live with. After it has been going for awhile it does start to make a slight rattling but we just put our 5 lb.s hand weights on top of it and that stopped the rattling plus it now gets them off the bedroom floor and easier for me to find LOL
