10000 btu ac June 10, 2009
This is the best ac available. It is the most quiet unit on the market(checked with a sound meter). The front grill is a bit thin but if you put white electrical tape under the grill and filter door it is very quiet. I sleep 3 feet from the window and it has to be quiet. I tossed a new Haier because it was so loud. I wish ac's had a sound rating in db, it would make shopping easier.

Very Cheap Build May 18, 2009
I have to admit, I'm really surprised by all the 5-star reviews. To be honest, the unit does cool extremely well. However, the build on this unit is just too cheap to imagine the unit lasting for more than a two or three years. The front cover snaps on and the prongs used for the snap are very easily broken. Considering this unit weighs about 90lbs, it should be built for a little more wear and tear. Also, the units assembly is not the easiest. It took about 45 minutes to build and install the AC. Not too bad, except that when all was said and done, the unit made a grinding noise. If you would apply pressure to the case, the grinding noise would stop, but when you relieved the pressure it would start right back up. Needless to say I returned this unit and bought a Frigidaire 10'000 BTU air conditioner. Took 10 minutes to install and feels like a solid piece of equipment.

noise,Front grill/panel is too delicateCONS: The front grill and some of the other plastic components are so cheaply made, you'll have to take great care in assembling the air conditioner so as not to break anything. You may also need to drill out some of the holes for mounting the side wings, so have your drill handy. Once your unit is installed and working, you may find that the cheap, front grill rattles and has to be duct-taped tightly to the rest of the unit. Also, if you use the unit while it is raining, keep an eye out for significant water leakage coming from the front.
PROS: All of the problems aside, this unit is a real workhorse. It puts out a lot of ice-cold air while being relatively easy on the utility bill. If the front grill isn't rattling, you'll be satisfied with the noise output. At its highest fan speed, this 10,000 BTU unit produces no more noise than my previous 5,500 BTU unit. The remote control is a real plus, too. I would recommend this product to anyone, but I would also advise them to keep a roll of duct tape and a few towels handy, just in case.

UNRELIABLE: FAN MOTOR & COMPRESSOR FAILED June 30, 2010

Fan motor failed in 5 months. The repair person stated to have seen too many broken examples of this model built by LG for Kenmore. Compressor broke exactly at 4 year anniversary. Sears would not repair or replace.
