this air conditioner is a good deal. very quiet, the only thing I would like changed would be the monitoring, it comes on every four or five minutes to check the air, Its not that annoying so, I would not let this be a deal braker.
Well worth the money. I would not buy a room air conditioner, This one does the whole house.

Works well, but.... August 13, 2009
We bought two of these about a week apart in early August. One went in my garage and the other in the mother-in-law's house.
If you're looking for something cheap that blows cold air and is reasonably quiet and efficient, then you'll be happy. For anything beyond that though, exercise caution and understand that you're getting (maybe) what you pay for.
First and foremost, these are made in China; they are cheap and they show it. They were not well boxed and both (from two different Sears locations) had dents and distortion in the outer cases. The grilles don't fit well and don't want to stay on, and the access door for the filter doesn't like to stay shut. As someone else mentioned the side curtains are a bear to install due to sloppy machining and lack of clearance to get to the screws. And, the holes in the bottom of the frame for the external supports that go beneath it on the windowsill are drilled such that they're pretty much useless. They did not line up with anything useful on either installation. In once case I drilled new holes; in the other a drill was not available so I rigged something with scrap wood.
Finally, there was something in the instructions about making sure that the drain hose was attached to the outlet hole. that evidently was for an earlier design. These units simply have a notch at the back that lets condensation drain out of the bottom of the unit. So, I wound up pulling the unit out of the case for the fun of it.
Bottom line: So long as you understand that they look like **** and may require some creativity during the installation process, you'll be fine. But, if you're looking for something that installs easily and goes together properly as well, spend a little more and get a name brand built elsewhere.

Cool, Quiet, Efficent, Lightweight,Inexpensive to useI purchased this unit in October..In Louisiana we need AC throughout the year so when my 2 year old unit went out I was in a bind to find a replacement. Thank goodness Sears carries these yearound. I have been pleasantly surprised with this unit-- it is quiet, easy to operate but the best thing is, I have noticed a difference in my utility bill..It is lower than previous years. I can only attribute this to the new unit. It cost less to operate! YEA!! I give it 4 stars only because I have not used it a full year yet but so far its great.

Bad fit, finish, instructions, packaging,starts every four or five min.the instructions for installation were not very easy to understand and the installation was not that easy either even with help. like someone else said in the reviews it came dented and the unit turns on and off alot. It does make noise but I expected that since the salesman at the store said al do. But overall I rate it OK.

Wish the back of the unit wasn't openI HAD A 8000 BTU WHIRLPOOL A/C AND IT BURNED OUT AFTER ONLY 4 YEARS OF NORTH EAST PA.SUMMERS. NOT ALOT OF USE. I MOVED HERE TO MARTINSBURG W.V. ABOUT 10 DEGREES HOTTER AND MORE HUMID. I READ POSITIVE REVIEWS ABOUT THIS MODEL AND IT LEAD ME TO BUY THIS ONE. IT HAS BEEN INSTALLED FOR ABOUT 4 DAYS IN A 1400 SQ. FOOT RANCH HOME PRETTY WELL INSULATED. IT IS IN MY KITCHEN WINDOW AND COOLS MY KITCHEN DININING ROOM AND LIVING ROOM . AN AREA OF ABOUT 32 X 24 FOOT. THE WEATHER OUTSIDE WAS ABOUT 85 DEGREES AND HIGH HUMDITY AND IT MADE THIS AREA VERY NICE. IT REALLY SUCKS THE HUMIDITY OUT OF THE HOUSE. IT WAS A LITTLE HEAVY TO INSTALL BUT WITH HELP "NO PROBLEM". I REALLY DON'T KNOW HOW MUCH ENERGY IT WILL USE BUT IT CAN'T BE MORE THAN THE OLD ONE. I PUT A PROBE THERMOMETER IN THE FRONT OF IT AND AT TIMES IT GOES DOWN TO ABOUT 35 DEGREES. ITS PRETTY QUIET AND IT HAS A NICE LOOK TO IT. I PAID $300.00 AND $85.00 FOR A 5 YEAR EXTENDED WARRANITY. I AM HOPING I GET MANY YEARS OF GOOD SERVICE FROM THIS BRAND. IF I DO I WILL BUY ANOTHER SEARS KENMORE.

It was fairly easy to install. The fan is pretty weak and i have to put another fan in front of the airconditioner just to get the air into the living room which is about 5 feet away. I wouldnt exactly call it multi room. I would recomend it if your going to use it for a sinlge room but definately not multiple rooms. Other then that if we keep it on 24/7 it stays fairly cool. Im not extremely satisfied but definately at ease that atleast we have an airconditioner.
